In major Queen’s University news, it has been revealed that the Belfast-based university is set to allocate a massive amount of £100 million for a period of four years to address the acute student housing crisis prevalent in the UK. The student housing crisis in this UK housing news has been consistent in other parts of the globe, too.

This major turn of events comes in the footsteps of an insightful report published by StuRents, which suggested that the UK could see a potential shortfall of 4,50,000 student beds by 2025, a major source of concern for many.

At present, Belfast’s student quarters have the capacity to house about 4,500 full-time students, as revealed in this student accommodation news. The need for urgent address has been heightened due to the fact that the country would require 3,000 new rooms by next year itself. This Queen’s University news has picked up traction owing to the fact that a global student housing crisis has been brewing for a long time.

According to Queen’s vice president of students and corporate services, Caroline Young, the University is well aware of the growing need for student accommodation across the country. “There is a specific focus on the need for high quality, affordable and safe housing options, in close proximity to Queen’s.”

According to UK government numbers, this Queen’s University news is even more significant because of the sheer number of international students the UK witnesses studying at their institutions every year. In June 2023, about 142,828 Indian students were issued student visas.

In lieu of this high-scale project announced in this UK housing news, Queen’s University has already secured three sites on Dublin Road, Laganbank, and Brunswick Street to deploy this operation.

Not only will this big plan provide accommodation to Queen’s students and staff, it will also help provide jobs for as many as 225 workers and is set to bring about a transformative impact on the city centre.
