The City of Glasgow College is a higher education institution located in Glasgow, Scotland. Following a vote by the Scottish Government on August 30, 2010, it was established in 2010 when Central College, Glasgow Metropolitan College, and the Glasgow College of Nautical Studies merged. It was formerly Scotland’s largest college, is now the country’s largest technical school. The college offers up to 2,000 professional and technical courses, from introductory to master’s level, each year. Its multi-award-winning twin-site super campus is located in the city’s downtown and offers students first-rate resources and the opportunity to develop employability-related skills.
Two campuses comprise the City of Glasgow College, which is dispersed throughout the city. The two campuses are the City Campus and the Riverside Campus. The first minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon, reopened the 1969-built Riverside Campus on October 26, 2015, after its thorough restoration. It offers engineering and nautical science courses and is situated on the south bank of the River Clyde. Additionally, it provides training for officers in the Merchant Navy with the rank of Chief Engineer and Master Mariner. The City Campus, which is situated on Cathedral Street in Glasgow, was formally introduced by Sophie, Countess of Wessex, in 2016. Together with the designers Michael Laird and Reiach & Hall, Sir Robert McAlpine served as the project’s primary contractor on both occasions.
