A public institution called London South Bank University, or LSBU, is situated in Elephant and Castle, a neighborhood of London, in the London Borough of Southwark, not far from the South Bank of the River Thames. The LSBU, which bears its name after the neighborhood, dates back to 1892. The South Bank Polytechnic Institute, once known as Borough Polytechnic Institute, changed its name to South Bank Polytechnic in 1987. Later, in 1992, the institute received university status and changed its name to South Bank University. In September 2003, the name was changed to the LSBU. In the current Times Higher Education 2022 rankings, London South Bank University (LSBU) placed fifth globally for "Reducing Inequality," 63rd for "Promoting Good Health and Wellbeing," and 90th overall.
