Northumbria University


Established in 1880,  Northumbria University is located in Newcastle upon Tyne in the North East of England. Northumbria is one of the UK's most vibrant universities with a range of global partners, a rising research reputation, and high graduate employment. It has its origins in three Newcastle colleges - Rutherford College of Technology, the College of Art & Industrial Design, and the Municipal College of Commerce. In 1969, these three colleges formed Newcastle Polytechnic, which became the primary center for the teachers training with the creation of the City College of Education in 1974 and the Northern Counties College of Education in 1976. Newcastle Polytechnic gained University status in 1992 and was reconstituted as the new University of Northumbria; Official name of the University still is the University of Northumbria at Newcastle. Northumbria has invested more than £252 million on its campuses so that students can experience better learning, teaching, research, and many other activities. Northumbria University has produced some outstanding innovators – Sir Jonathan Ive, senior vice-president of Apple and designer of the iPhone, iPod, and iMac, Sting, an internationally renowned musician.

The University has two campuses located in Newcastle and one in London. City Campus, in the center of Newcastle upon Tyne, is divided into City Campus East and City Campus West. 

Opened in September 2007, City Campus East offers Law, Design, and the Newcastle Business School (NBS). City Campus West is home to the School of Arts & Social Sciences, Computing, Engineering & Information Sciences, and Life Sciences, which opened in the year 2010. A second campus is located on Coach Lame, which is 4 km outside of Newcastle. The Coach Lane Campus is home to the School of Health, Community, and Education Studies. Coach Lane Campus has computing and library services; its own Students' Union, and sports facilities, including indoor courts, a fitness suite, outdoor rugby, and football pitches.
