About Richmond University Kensington Campus

A private university founded by British educator Cyril Taylor in 1972, Richmond American University London began teaching on the former site of the Richmond Theological College, which was part of the University of London, and was founded in 1843 as a methodist theological college. The American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS) had previously conducted their London study abroad programmes at the college site in Chiswick Park for several years. Richmond University began when AIFS acquired a majority of the college’s site in order to form an American liberal arts college. Their Kensington campus opened on St Albans Grove in 1978 and was where their third and fourth-year students would study alongside those under the college’s US Study Abroad programme. This campus was then expanded onto Young Street and officially opened by Diana, Princess of Wales, in 1988. 

Richmond University Kensington campus’ library holds a vast collection of more than 60,000 books and DVDs, as well as 36,000 newspapers and news wires. The primary campus of those studying undergraduate courses, the Richmond campus also holds the university’s headquarters and admissions department here. The university recently relocated its undergraduate students to the Chiswick park campus in September 2022. The Kensington campus still holds programmes for the university’s postgraduate students.
