Solent University (formerly Southampton Solent University) is a public research university in Southampton, England. It has about 10,500 students (2019/20). Its main campus is on East Park Terrace, near the city centre and Southampton's maritime hub. Solent Students' Union represents the university students based on the East Park Terrace campus. The origins of the university can be traced back to a private School of Art founded in 1856, which later became the Southampton College of Art. The Southampton Institute of Higher Education was founded in 1984 due to mergers with the Southampton College of Technology and, later, the College of Nautical Studies at Warsash. Solent University has three campuses: City, Warsash, and Timsbury Lake. Solent University is a comprehensive university with renowned academic faculty.
