One of the primary day-to-day activities of a student living near the University of Sussex is to travel. It can be either from the student accommodation at the University of Sussex or places around the University. London travel is easier than it seems as the city has an excellent public transportation system. Being a student at the University of Sussex, you can plan your trip with the online journey planner and avail yourself of student discounts. London also follows the system of Oyster cards, a smart card to pay for travel on buses, Tube, DLR and ferry services. As a student, you can purchase a Student Oyster card and avail yourself of the student discounts.
1. Train: A Unizone ticket allows unlimited train travel around Brighton and Hove, and this can save you a massive amount of money. Falmer Station is opposite the south side of the campus, and it connects you with major cities in the UK. As a student, you have access to a great selection of discounted rail travel options, including the 16–25 Railcard and the 26-30 Railcard.
2. Taxis: A standard taxi fare from campus into central Brighton is £14. But being a student, make sure to check out the Student Taxi Scheme for student discounts.
3. Bus: Buses are cheaper than trains in Brighton if you frequently travel to and around the University of Sussex. You can pay via cash, contactless, or key card or use the Brighton and Hove buses app.
4. Bike: Biking is an option that will never go wrong. It reduces harm to the environment by reducing local traffic and air congestion. There are more than 50 bike docking stations on the campus of the University of Sussex. Take part in the Brighton Bike Sharing Scheme and learn more about it.
