10 Things To Do On New Year's Day
Cheers to new beginnings

As the clock strikes midnight, it is time to leave the old year behind and start fresh. A brand new year has just begun, and with it comes the opportunity to start fresh and make new memories. A blank page has just opened up for you to fill it with memories and art. Draw, doodle, or tear off the page; it is all yours. It has opened up for you to create the story of your life (One Direction plays in the background).

It's the New Year. You have a whole new year to explore! You could start off by doing some of the fun things to do on new year’s day such as trying something new, like taking a yoga class or going for a hike. Whatever you decide to do, make sure to make the most of this day and create special memories for the new year!

10 Things to do on New Year's Day

1. Make New Year’s Resolutions

No matter the commitment issues, it is always great to start your year with goal-centric resolutions. One of the things to do on new year’s day is make new year’s resolutions. When you make some new year’s resolutions, you give yourself a chance to hit the reset button to the last year. The resolutions help you structure your year in the way you would like. They can be a great way to kick start your new year, and oh, how satisfying it is to strike off the resolutions and goals you achieved at the very end. Usually, people write their resolutions before new year’s eve, but if you haven’t, it’s okay; better late than never, right?

2. Go on a hike

Imagine starting your new year’s day breathing fresh and pure air (after the raving party last night, we would definitely need it), looking over the lush green or a beautiful view from a hilltop or a mountaintop. If there are no hills near you, you can also take a nice walk in a garden, or a trail hike works wonders too. You should definitely hike before you check out other things to do on new year’s day.

3. Cook yourself a nice and healthy breakfast

One of the many things to do on new year’s day is cook yourself a healthy meal. Healthy food does not only help with your physical health but also helps with your mental health as well. Two birds with one stone, we say. Cooking something for yourself is a sign and an act of love towards yourself. And the new year’s eve party, your body is definitely going to need antioxidants and all the healthy food and drinks available. You can also call your friends and/or family over and host a nice brunch at your place.

4. Start a nice book

Ah! Not all can read a book without dozing off after just the first paragraph. But reading a genre which piques your attention and interest and as we have heard that books are a man’s best friend. You can light up a nice scented candle, make yourself a nice hot cup of chocolate or coffee and just curl up on your favourite couch and just dive into the world of books. E-Books are also a great way to start reading if you don’t want to commit to buying physical books. Pick up a great thriller, and you’ll be stuck in your seat till the end.

5. Binge-watch movies

Whoever said a little too much of something is not good has definitely never binge-watched a marathon of all the Harry Potter movies! Order a large pizza and a box of chocolates and cosy up with your partner or your cat and just binge-watch psychological thrillers or a long run of rom-com movies (make sure to keep tissues nearby if this is what you pick). Also, a little bit of Adam Sandler and Hugh Grant never goes wrong.

6. Start a 30-day challenge

Challenge yourself to a 30-day challenge you might think otherwise of starting. It can be a 30-day workout challenge or a self-care challenge. It takes around 21 days for humans to build up a habit, so if you are successful in the challenge and like doing it, like meditation, this could help you build a healthy and consistent habit. You can also try new 30-day challenges every month. By doing this on your things to do on new year’s day list, you can start your year on a very positive note.

7. Organise your closet

Well, organising life in a day might not be possible, but you can definitely organise your closet. Starting the new year by one of the things to do on new year’s day is by cleaning and sorting your closet. This way, you can donate or sell the clothes you don’t wish to wear anymore. This will help you give a fresh and positive start to your new year. Emptying the closet and giving away the hoarded clothes will help you declutter your cupboard, and it is also a healthy way to deal with emotions and memories associated with the particular clothing. Also, cue to shop for new clothes! Once you’re done with your closet, you can also organise your room.

8. Call a loved one

Starting your year with your loved ones can be wonderful. Pick up that phone and a loved one who is not with you under the roof right now. It can be someone from your family, your friend or someone you’re dating, or you can call everyone. Being surrounded by your loved ones, even virtually, can be very refreshing and promising. This can be one of the loveliest things you can do on a new year’s day.

9. Host a game night

Hosting a game night with your friends or family can be an amazing end to your exciting day. This can be one of the fun things to do on new year’s day. Spend the rest of your night playing Fifa or car racing games while ordering in or getting takeaways. Be careful, and don’t end up smashing your TV while competing.

10. Start journaling

Journaling can be a great way to pen down your emotions and feelings and stay in touch with them. It helps you stay in perspective and helps you reduce stress. Journaling can be a great step towards taking care of your mental health. If you find it difficult to write about your emotions, you can also start journaling by simply writing about the things you are grateful for. This will help you inculcate a sense of gratitude towards your life and the people and things in it.

The start of a new year is full of possibilities and opportunities, so make the most of it! Go on a hike, have a picnic, explore a new city, and create a vision board. Spend it with your family, friends, or whoever you love. Each of these activities can be an excellent way to start off the new year. Appreciate the moments and create something new. Whether you have a day full of adventure or a day of rest, the first day of the new year is a great time to reflect on the past and plan for the future. Have a wonderful new year's day, and make sure to make the most of it! The new year celebration has just begun!
