The Grapes, one of the oldest pubs in Liverpool, was built around 1804 on the site of an earlier tavern. This was a popular hangout for the Beatles and many other rock bands and a safe refuge from their shouting teenage fans. There is an excellent selection of real ales, and the prices are incredibly fair. Evenings must be cramped and cosy, but there was plenty of room for our afternoon visit. A little off the beaten path, but certainly worth a visit. They serve an excellent selection of local beers and gins and provide prompt service.
