LLB Degree in USA: Law Education Pathways & Top Universities
Judicial Journey, Legal Legacy!

Do you find yourself mentally transported to a courtroom every time you dramatically shout “Objection!” — even in casual arguments? If yes, then an LLB degree in USA will be the right fit for you.

LLB in USA for international students comes wrapped with practical learning of legal studies and reasoning, and aspiring career opportunities. But we get it—navigating through the process can feel overwhelming, especially when the right information is hard to come by.

That’s where we come in. From top universities, tuition fees, and eligibility criteria to the admission process and accommodation options, this guide covers everything you need to know about pursuing an LLB in the USA.

How to Study LLB in USA?

In India, you qualify to become a lawyer after a three-year post-graduation LLB program or a five-year-long integrated course of LLB right after high school. However, in the US Legal Education System, the LLB system has largely been replaced by the Juris Doctor (JD).

The answer to how to become a lawyer in USA lies in completing either an LLM degree or, preferably, a JD after your LLB. The program is designed to make the students eligible to sit the US Bar Exams and further practice law in any state.

Admission Requirements and Eligibility Criteria

There are certain criteria that a student must check off to be able to get an LLB degree in USA or its equivalent. Below, we have listed out the requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree equivalent to a 4 year US Program with a minimum of 3.0 GPA or higher as required by the respective college.
  • Clearing the LSAT (Legal School Admission Test).
  • An official proof of English Proficiency via IELTS/TOEFL.
  • Letter of Recommendation

When filling out the college applications, make sure to keep these documents handy. This will ensure you are eligible for law studies in USA.

Types of Bachelor of Law Degrees

In the United States, a standard LLB degree is not provided, as legal education typically begins at the graduate level with a Juris Doctor (JD) program.

International students who already hold an LLB from their home country can pursue an LLM (Master of Laws) to specialize in a particular area of law. If they wish to practice law in the USA, they may opt to complete a JD, which is the primary professional degree required for admission to the bar.
