We also take a deep dive into educational and student demographics that are driving the growth of the market. We have identified areas of deficiency while highlighting opportunities for providers to capitalize on the increasing demand in both global and key regional markets. Our analysis illuminates critical insights into the student housing market as of January 2023, providing potential opportunities for expansion and growth within the industry.

Abstract

The global student housing market is experiencing significant growth in the United Kingdom, the United States, and Australia. These territories have been the top three countries for global student housing investments in 2022, with over $22 Bn estimated inflow. Even with a significant growth in these housing markets, PBSA beds have been in short supply in these regions. PBSAs being the most favorable accommodation option for students, investments for PBSAs have maintained an upward chart in 2022.  This growth in the student housing market can be linked to the rising enrollment rates of students. UK, USA & Australia, all 3 countries have seen an increase in the number of students enrolling in the year 2022. They have also projected growth in international student enrollment, with the number of students expected to increase by 380 million by 2030.

The changing landscape of the job market is driving the demand for higher education worldwide. Individuals seek to improve their skills and knowledge to remain competitive in the workforce. This growing demand for higher education is driving students to seek opportunities in countries with a strong reputation for quality education and research, USA, UK & Australia being the top sought after destinations. The youth population aged 18 to 23 is the key determinant of higher education demand, creating a need for specialized training and thus student focused housing options.

Despite difficult economic conditions worldwide, the student housing market shows steady growth with an ever increasing demand. The Amber Student Housing Report highlights the significant growth and potential of the global student housing market. As the demand for higher education continues to grow worldwide, it is essential for the industry to continue evolving to meet the needs of students seeking specialized housing options. The report serves as a crucial resource for investors, educational institutions, and accommodation providers, providing potential opportunities for expansion and growth within the industry.
