In the recent update related to the Australian visa requirements, the CEO of International Development Program (IDP), Tennealle O’Shannessy, has raised concerns related to Australia’s ability to attract international students. During a recent IDP breakfast briefing, O’Shannessy highlighted the significance of clarity on the recent measures taken by the government related to the Australian migration strategy that can impact Australian visa application and recruitment. 

O’Shannessy emphasized the importance of the Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) frameworks relied upon by education providers and agents. She expressed her primary concern about the uncertainty induced by the fluctuations in the Australian visa acceptance rate and the Australian student visa requirements. Her statement also included the need to establish transparent communication concerning evidence requirements changes in the Australian student visa. Moreover, This also includes sourcing market considerations to empower students while they make their decisions.

The recent Australia visa news regarding the changes made in the Genuine Temporary Entrant requirements and the introduction of the new Genuine Student Test have left all the stakeholders in uncertainty. Although, someo students are reconsidering their Australian migration and looking for better countries where the policies are comparatively more sturdy and certain. 

O’Shannessy stated from a survey that highlights how the impact of the cost of living on students has overpowered the concerns about student visa Australia policy changes. The fact that international education is a sector that is always in demand regardless of the economic cycle is the key factor here, with China, a key source market, as a prime example. However, slowdowns in the markets can also be beneficial for the sector as they provide an opportunity emphasize the value of international education.

Mentioning India, O’Shannessy has stated that the connection between India and Australia has been extremely strong. While various concerns have been raised about Australian student visas for Indian students under the free trade agreements,  concerns about the Australian student visa policy change and regulations persist. O’Shannessy reassured ongoing discussions aimed at addressing these concerns while anticipating continued strength in the Indian market.
