Scape Australia collaborates with Plus Architecture to Solve the Rising Student Housing crisis
Asia & Australia News
The ongoing student accommodation crisis in Australia has found a solution. As per the latest pbsa news, Scape Living, in collaboration with the leading international architect, Plus, aim to build student accommodation units at eight different sites in Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne. The upcoming project of building student housing units is a way of easing the increasing pressure on the student housing market in Australia.
Australia is seeing a growth in the number of international students worldwide. The major contributor in this sector is China, where 40,000 more students are expected to enroll next season. With the increase in the number of international students in Australia, the student accommodation market of the country is dealing with the shortage of rooms for students.
In the words of the Scape CEO, Anouk Darling, the housing market in Brisbane is facing a major crisis issue that majorly revolves around supply, quality, and affordability, which needs to be addressed on time.
As per Anouk Darling, “With limited vacancies in PBSA in the city, students are also turning to the wider housing market. This not only places additional pressure on the housing system, but means that students are in accommodation that simply doesn’t meet their needs.”
Furthermore, Chrisney Formosa, Plus Architecture principal, addressed the situation and revealed, “Our varied Scape student accommodation projects are home to students from more than 100 different nationalities collectively. It’s crucial to consider how to design these spaces to support students to feel comfortable, safe and connected to their fellow students.” Their vision is to create high-quality PBSA student housing units for students.
If we look at the student housing data, then amongst all the cities, Brisbane is leading the student accommodation market with 17,251 beds, whereas 2,700 are already in the channel for 2026. Out of this, Scape is planning on building 400, which it will entirely operate. The Gold Coast is also attracting a major number of international students, with Bond University being the force behind it.
