US Embassy in India Breaks Records, Processing Highest-Ever Visa Applications

As India undergoes increased globalization and the younger generation seeks early international exposure, a growing number of Indian students are choosing foreign institutions for higher studies. As per the US visa application news, the US Embassy on November 20, 2023, announced the accomplishment of its annual target, processing one million visas, with nearly 90,000 being US student visas in September 2023. This surpassed the figures from both 2022 and the pre-pandemic years.
The official X (formerly Twitter) account of the US Embassy in India disclosed a significant achievement. It shared an update about processing the highest number of US student visa applications in 2023 compared to previous years. Expressing its commitment, the embassy aims to cater to a larger number of students, workers, and visitors seeking US student visas in the upcoming weeks.
US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, shared a remarkable update, noting that Indian students studying in the US have set records for the third consecutive year. Speaking at the 45th Anniversary of the Humphrey Fellowship Programme, Garcetti revealed that the academic year 2022-23 witnessed an unprecedented surge. The number of Indian students in the US surpassed an impressive 268,000, as per the US visa application news.
Garcetti highlighted the profound impact of Indian students on the US education landscape, noting that they now constitute a significant quarter of all international students in the country. This achievement not only underscores the academic prowess of Indian students but also signifies a transformative shift in the demographic dynamics of international graduate students in the US.
Emphasising on the evolving relationship between the US and India, Ambassador Garcetti says, “Our partnership with India is one of the United States’ most important bilateral relationships. The ties between our people are stronger than ever. We will continue our record-setting volume of visa work in the coming months to give as many Indian applicants as possible the opportunity to travel to the US and experience the US-India friendship firsthand.”
