Chinese Government Scholarship: Eligibility, Documents, & more
Make yourself China bound!

Have you ever dreamed of studying abroad with a scholarship that goes beyond just covering tuition? The Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC) does exactly that! Offering international students full or partial funding, including tuition, accommodation, and a stipend for living expenses. From prestigious universities to hands-on learning in one of the world's fastest-growing economies, CSC scholarship is more than financial aid! It’s an opportunity to be part of China’s innovation and global influence. Read more to explore eligibility, application steps, and tips for securing your spot!

Why Study in China?

China has emerged as one of the leading destinations to study as it hosts over 4,92,000 students. The country hosts over 3,000 renowned universities and institutions, including seven universities ranked in the QS World University Top 100 as of 2024. China is at the forefront of innovation, driving architectural and technological advancements that have led to a 14% annual increase in research output.

What are CSC Scholarships?

Now, let’s learn a little more about the Chinese Scholarship Council or CSC. It was established by the People’s Republic of China to increase and improve the allure of studying in China. The Chinese Government Scholarship, also known as the CSC scholarship in China offers various fully and partially funded scholarships across 279 universities to international students. The CSC scholarship covers tuition fees, accommodation, medical insurance, and a monthly stipend that usually ranges between CNY 2,500 - CNY 3,500.

CSC Scholarship Types

The term “CSC scholarship” is, in actuality, an umbrella term. These are a host of scholarships offered by the China Scholarship Council to boost student life in the second biggest population in the world. Keep in mind CSC Scholarship China does not sponsor programs such as MBA and MBBS. Here are the three categories of Chinese government scholarships on offer by the China Scholarship Council:

1. CSC Scholarship Type C

CSC type C scholarship is reserved for students who are already studying at a university in China. The only important thing you need to keep in mind is that you can’t be a first-year student if you are applying for a CSC type C scholarship. This CSC scholarship in China also refers to certain appraisal scholarship programs.

2. CSC Scholarship Type B

Type B scholarships are reserved for those international students who aren’t already studying at a Chinese university, i.e. only if they are a freshman. This is essentially a Chinese University Program Scholarship, where applicants can only apply to three universities. Also, the CSC type B scholarship provides full coverage of tuition fees, on-campus accommodation fees, living allowance, and comprehensive medical insurance expenses.

3. CSC Scholarship Type A

Type A scholarships are essentially non-university scholarships. Therefore, institutions other than Chinese universities responsible for recruiting students are required to check your eligibility. Applicants are urged to enter their “Agency number”, such as the agency number of a certain Chinese embassy in a country. Bilateral Programs, the ASEAN University Network Program, the Pacific Islands Forum Program, and many more similar programs fall under the Type A category.

How Much Are CSC Scholarships Worth?

CSC scholarship in China can be partial or fully-funded. If the scholarship is fully funded, then it would cover the student’s tuition fee, accommodation, and insurance and additionally offer the student a stipend of 3,000 RMB (Chinese yuan) or $450 per month.
