Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to get into FIU as a freshman?

You will need at least a 2.5 GPA based on FIU’s scale, plus your SAT or ACT scores. FIU also checks if you meet Florida’s placement rules for college-level classes.

Do all majors have the same Florida International University requirements?

No. Some programs, like architecture or nursing, require higher grades or additional steps. They might ask for a test or portfolio. Check directly with the program if you’re not sure.

Can international students start early in the Summer?

Yes. FIU has a Summer start option called Early Fall Direct. You begin in June, get settled early, and the credits you take count toward the Summer credits FIU requires for graduation.

When should I start getting ready for grad school at FIU?

It’s best to start at least 12 months before your program begins. That gives you enough time to take the GRE, apply, and get your visa sorted without rushing.

What if I need to change something in my application?

You can fill out FIU’s Graduate Application Update Form to switch your program, change your term, fix your name, or even cancel the application if needed.
