Amidst talks of an oncoming student housing crisis already affecting multiple countries, some positives are popping up. In recent Coventry student news, an office block in the city has been involved in talks that could see it potentially transforming into a student accommodation hub. With Coventry University accommodations already filling up, there has been a call for private accommodation near Coventry University.

Developers in the city have submitted a proposal to revamp a building belonging to the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) and turn it into private accommodation near Coventry University. The former NSPCC building on Whitefairs Street is near Coventry City accommodations and is believed to be a huge boon for incoming students.

“The site has ready access to the full range of city centre amenities,” the planning statement said, it adds. “The development would continue to function as part of an established, highly accessible area which is close to social, community and medical facilities and is appropriate for student accommodation.”

The planning statement also mentions that the revamped accommodation site will have 21 bedrooms, six of which would be double sharing while the rest would be for individuals. The rooms are planned to have an ensuite. The new building will also feature common features such as a communal kitchen and a living room on each floor. The common features don’t just end there with additional amenities such as cycle and bin storage. “The site has ready access to the full range of city centre amenities.”

The city has struggled with a lack of student accommodation options as it was only last year when a 196-bed student building was rejected by the City Council for lack of parking spaces. However, the developers and students are hopeful that this new plan will get the go-ahead.
