There is no additional cost for Clearing, for 2026 entry you pay a one-off application fee of  £35.81. Free school meals application fee waiver: if you have received UK government-funded free school meals at any point during your secondary education, you will be eligible to have the application fee waived.

The cost of UCAS application 2026 covers your entire cycle, including UCAS Extra and Clearing, so there is no additional fee if you need to use those services later. The fee is paid when you submit your application through the UCAS Hub and cannot be refunded after submission.

This UCAS registration fee is the same regardless of how many choices you include, up to the maximum of five. Unlike previous cycles where a lower single-choice fee existed, there is now one flat ucas application cost for all applicants.

How to Apply Through UCAS: A Complete Walkthrough

Here is a full step-by-step guide to completing your UCAS application 2026–27.

Step 1: Create Your UCAS Account

Go to ucas.com and create an account in the UCAS Hub. During registration, you will be asked to provide your intended start year, level of study (undergraduate), and a buzzword if your school, college, or centre has provided one. If you are applying independently, no buzzword is required.

Step 2: Complete Your Personal Details

Log in to your UCAS Hub and fill in your personal information, full name, date of birth, address, nationality, and residency status. International applicants should pay particular attention to this section, as residency status affects your fee classification and visa requirements.

Step 3: Add Your Educational History

Enter all the schools, colleges, and universities you have attended, along with the qualifications you have taken or are currently taking. Include results you are still awaiting, you must list pending qualifications even if grades are not yet available.

Enter any relevant paid work experience. This section is optional but can strengthen applications for courses where industry experience is valued.

Step 5: Select Your Course Choices

4. You reply to your offers. Once you have received decisions from all your choices, or after the relevant deadline, you select a firm choice (your preferred offer) and an insurance choice (your backup). You decline any remaining offers.

Use a balanced choice strategy - A practical application includes at least one or two courses where your predicted grades comfortably meet the entry requirements, not every choice should be a reach.

Start your personal statement early - The three-question format for 2026–27 is more structured than the old open essay, but it still takes multiple drafts to get right. Start in summer before your application opens.

Get your reference organised - Your referee, usually a teacher or head of sixth form, needs advance notice and a copy of your personal statement to write a strong reference. Do not leave this until the last week before the deadline.
