GMAT Eligibility Criteria

Age Criteria

The Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) sets the age criteria for GMAT. There is no upper age limit for GMAT exam, but there is a minimum age requirement for GMAT. The student appearing for the GMAT exam should be at least 18 years of age. If the students fall in the 13-17 age group, they can still appear for the GMAT exam given with consent or written approval from their parents or legal guardians, also known as the NOC (No Objection Certification). 

Education Qualifications For GMAT Eligibility

With respect to GMAT eligibility, GCAC does not set eligibility criteria for the academic qualifications of the candidates. The student does not require a minimum degree to take the GMAT exam. However, GMAT eligibility differs from the eligibility criteria required to get admission to any university. To pursue an MBA or enroll in a business school abroad, the student will require an undergraduate degree/ high school degree, which is a minimum academic requirement to be eligible for admission.

Documents required for GMAT Eligibility

To appear for GMAT 2024, you must submit a government-issued photo ID. You also need to submit a confirmed registration ticket, which must have your name on it, and the payment slip for the registration fee. Here are a few documents you will need to prove that you are eligible:

1. Identification Proof

2. Educational Qualifications (As per desired university requirements)

3. Appointment Confirmation

4. Payment Confirmation

5. Test Centre Regulation Acknowledgement

6. Accommodation Requests (if applicable)

Language Requirements

Students from all over the world appear for GMAT, which means that a lot of students who do not belong to an English-medium school also apply for GMAT. However, the GMAT exam is to be attempted in English. The candidates must have a basic understanding and fluency in English. To clear the GMAT, the candidate must be able to understand the twisted questions which are asked in the GMAT exam. The aspirants must have a good command of the English language as the exam is tough and complicated. Hence, having an understanding of English is a language requirement for GMAT eligibility.

Work Experience

There are no work experience requirements in order to take the GMAT, unlike the GRE. GMAT primarily focuses on assessing quantitative reasoning, verbal, analytical, and writing skills of the student. You might require relevant work experience while applying to business schools abroad. However, there is no work experience for GMAT eligibility criteria. Although, having a work experience can turn out extremely beneficial for the student in terms of personal development and defined career goals. 

GMAT Eligibility for Indian Students

In general, the GMAT eligibility criteria do not specify separate eligibility requirements for students belonging to several countries. Hence, Indian students wishing to apply for GMAT do not have any separate GMAT eligibility to keep in mind. It is the same for everybody, no matter which country the candidate belongs to.

GMAT Eligibility for Reattempts

There are a few things a student should keep in mind while they are attempting to take the GMAT exam again. Following is a list of  GMAT eligibility criteria that one must know before applying again:

1. There is a waiting period to adhere to before applying again. A candidate must wait for 16 days before they retake the GMAT test. One can apply only 5 times within a year.

2. Candidates should pay the applicable fees again for each GMAT attempt that they take.

3. GMAT Score validity for each attempt is five years, so candidate can plan their reattempts within this timeframe.

Apart from these, any person belonging to any gender, age, academic background, etc, can apply for the GMAT. GMAC made sure that there was no discrimination on any basis.
