Types of TOEFL Exams and Fees in India 2024 

TOEFL exam fees seem substantial. They are lower than the overall costs associated with pursuing higher education or professional opportunities in English-speaking countries. Below is a table showing different types of TOEFL exams and fees in 2024: 

The TOEFL exam fee for registration is $205. You can take the TOEFL exam at home or the test centres. In India, students need to choose the TOEFL iBT test. The TOEFL paper-based test is available in locations with limited computer access or internet. The following is an overview of the test fees for the TOEFL test at home and the TOEFL essential test.  

1. TOEFL at Home 

ETS has launched a TOEFL at-home edition, allowing candidates to complete the assessment from the safety of their residences. The home edition of the test is available in every region that conducts the TOEFL iBT test. The TOEFL home edition price is the same as the TOEFL iBT price. The TOEFL test cost for the home edition is $205 or INR 16,962. 

2. TOEFL Essential test

Due to the pandemic, ETS introduced the TOEFL Essential test, a shorter version of the TOEFL iBT test. The TOEFL Essential exam is as impactful as the iBT test. The price of the TOEFL Essential test is $120, which is approximately INR 9,997.

TOEFL Registration Fee

Candidates must note that the form fee, registration fee, and application fee indicate the total cost of the TOEFL test. As mentioned before, the TOEFL registration fee is INR 19,962 for candidates who register from India. In addition, candidates must remember that online registration for the TOEFL closes seven days before the exam. Late registration closes four days before the test, and there is a TOEFL late fee of $40 (INR 3,900). 

TOEFL Rescheduling Fee 

If candidates need to reschedule the test, they should do so four days before the exam. To reschedule the TOEFL test, candidates must call the Regional Registration Centre. Candidates can also log into their ETS account and reschedule the test. The TOEFL rescheduling fee is $60 (INR 5,900), and it will be forfeited when the four-day deadline is over. 

TOEFL Test Price Exam Overview

Below we provide a breakdown of the TOEFL test costs that a candidate has to pay for registration, rescheduling, score reviewing, etc.

TOEFL Rechecking Fee  

Rescoring for TOEFL is only available for speaking and writing sections. Candidates can request a rescore if they are not satisfied with their speaking or writing score. In addition to paying the TOEFL test price, candidates have to pay $80 (INR 7,900) to review the writing or speaking test. 

‍TOEFL Cancellation Fees (TOEFL Refund Policy)   

Candidates can cancel the TOEFL test no later than four days before the exam date to be eligible for a refund, which is half of the TOEFL fee. They will receive the refund amount in US Dollars, which will be credited back to the original credit/debit card or bank account via which the payment was made. 

TOEFL Exam Fees Refund  

Candidates who cancel the TOEFL test by the four-day deadline are eligible for a refund. They can receive 50% of the TOEFL test fee, and the remainder will be retained to reimburse the expenses of processing their registration and holding space at the test centre. The TOEFL refunds are restricted to TOEFL exams, and the amount is not applicable to preparation materials or additional services.

TOEFL Score Sending Fee 

TOEFL exam fees include the service fee for sending TOEFL scores to the choice of universities or institutions. Candidates who want to send their TOEFL results to other universities than the pre-determined four universities need to pay an additonal TOEFL fee for sending extra scores. The TOEFL score reporting fee is approximately $25 (INR 1640). 

TOEFL Test Fee: Payment Modes 

Candidates can follow the payment methods mentioned below to pay for TOEFL exam fees: 

1. Global Payment Modes 

For the TOEFL fee, you can pay through your ETS account using a credit/debit card, electronic check, Alipay, or PayPal. Phone and mail are two other accepted payment methods.  

2. Indian Payment Modes

ETS accepts UPI and Bharat QR payments for Google Pay, PhonePe, MobiKwik, Ola Money, Amazon Pay, WahtsApp, FreeCharge, Airtel Money, PayZapp, JioMoney, and Paytm. You can also use your Visa, American Express, MasterCard, and RuPay credit and debit cards to pay the TOEFL test fee.
