The UK might just be losing its popularity among students as it sees a steep decline in enrollment, according to the report published by Enroly. The data predicts a fall in enrolment rate in January 2024 when compared to January 2023. The data published by Enroly also shows a fall in various factors, which include CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) and UK visa applications.

The fall has been majorly seen among Nigerian and Indian students. who have been the majority of market drivers in the UK.  According to the Data published by Enroly, the Nigerian market is expected to drop by 74% in CAS and 76% in UK  visa applications. At the same time, one of the market leaders, India, is expected to show a drop of 52% in deposits and 66% in CAS/ UK Visa applications.

The Director Of Universities UK International, Jamie Arrowsmith, commented on the Enroly data by saying that “the data present suggest a challenging period for International student recruitment in the UK”. Jaime also commented that the competition from overseas countries such as the USA and Australia had shown strong growth after the pandemic restrictions. The Director of Universities UK International, Jamie Arrowsmith,  also said that the UK student visa policy changes in the UK and economic conditions in a number of countries might be some of the factors predicting this decline. Students will not be able to convert their UK student visas to UK working visas. The second reason might be that international students are no longer able to bring their relatives with them unless they have enrolled in Postgraduate research programs. This, in turn, might affect the drop as students might not prefer studying in the UK.

Some universities in the UK have been running an additional December intake this year, and the numbers show a bland interest among students who wish to study in the UK. As we look at the numbers provided by Enroly, we see that the December and January data combined shows a 49%  drop in deposits and a 60% drop in CAS when compared to January 2023.
