Key Points:

1. According to the latest update, the post graduate work permit Canada at the border has officially ended starting from June 21, 2024.

2. This is to equate the wait time and process for both online and offline Canada work permit applications.

3. The aim is to reduce the issue of ‘flagpoling’ where the temporary residents are able to skip the online wait time by leaving and returning to Canada.

4. The Canadian government is now working towards making the Canada work permit process seamless and making online application forms simpler.

5. The flagpole has been reduced to just 12 entry points so that the visitor’s traffic can be well-managed.

According to the recent Canada work permit news, there is a significant policy shift in the post-graduate work permit process. The changes were implemented on June 21, 2024, when international citizens won’t be able to apply for post graduate work permit Canada at the border. This change will put a cap on the practice of ‘flagpoling’, where the temporary residents are able to bypass the wait time on the online Canada work permit process. They were able to skip the wait time by leaving and returning to the country for same-day immigration services.

The Canada study permit, however, stays valid for three months after the student’s program’s end date. Graduates from eligible institutions who apply for a PGWP before their study permit expires are allowed to work full-time while their application is processed. They receive an automated notification as proof of eligibility for potential employers, and upon approval, the work permit is sent directly to them.

There are several measures taken by the Canadian government to simplify the immigration process in the country and to equate it to several groups. Several efforts are taken to speed up the in-Canada work permit process. The online Canada application process simplification is a work in progress to allow foreign nationals to continue working as they wait for their new application’s approval. Workers can also start looking for their new jobs as they wait for their new work permit after application.

To effectively manage the visitor traffic across the border, the hours for flagpoling have been reduced to 12 entry points throughout Canada. Starting from March 1, 2023, to February 29, 2024 around 1/5th of the PGWP have attempted to flagpole.

TL;DR

Canada has officially ended the post graduate work permit at the border. This new order was implemented on June 21, 2024. The major reason why this decision was taken was to stop the applicants from flagpoling. This change will majorly impact temporary residents who used to flagpole to skip the online wait time for post graduate work permit Canada applications. They did it by leaving and re-entering the country for same-day immigration services. The graduates can continue working full-time while their PGWP application is being processed and while their study permit is on the verge of expiring. The government is working relentlessly to make the Canada work permit process easier and more seamless while emphasizing reducing the flagpoling.
