Canada's 2025 Immigration Target: 500,000 Annually, India as a Priority

The announcement was made by Marc Miller, the Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship, as he unveiled the immigration plans for 2024-26.

Indians are poised to be the primary beneficiaries of this increase, with 281,135 individuals slated for admission under the economic category and an additional 114,000 under the family category.

It's important to note that immigration has been a significant driver of Canada's population growth.  In 2022, over 118,000 Indians were granted Canadian permanent residency, accounting for a quarter of the total 437,120 newcomers to Canada.

In order to reach this goal, an additional 2.1% of the population needs to be admitted as per the government. Even though there's a shortage of housing, the government, led by Justin Trudeau, is actively pursuing an aim of welcoming more immigrants, which could provide significant opportunities for Canadian immigration for Indian students.

Miller also added, "We recognize that housing, infrastructure planning, and sustainable population growth need to be properly taken into account".
