Measures Taken By IRCC To Verify Letter of Acceptance For International Students
Canada News
Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has started to take measures to maintain the integrity and build a firm base for the international student program in Canada. Furthermore, The IRCC will be launching a portal to aid the DILs or Designated Learning Institutions through the immigration department. These are the only schools in Canada that are authorised to accept letters of acceptance from international students.
The new measures established by the IRCC will enable the DILs to verify the letters of acceptance, which will be submitted to an online portal by students. The representatives of IRCC will have access to these LOAs. These DILs will have up to 10 calendar days to verify the LOAs if a DIL fails to verify the Letter of Acceptance. The international student visa application will be cancelled and will be returned to the applicant with the fees they have paid for the processing costs. The DILs will also lose access to the letters of acceptance once the 10-day timeframe has passed.
These new changes, with many coming along in 2024, are taken after Canada’s international student system. This also included the high-profile case of 700 Indian students being deported. These students were scammed into coming to Canada on fake acceptance letters, which were fabricated by a defrauding immigration consultant.
Moreover, Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada has proposed a new framework for Designated Learning Institutions. The term coined for this new framework is “Trusted institution framework.” This new policy is going to be introduced in a two-tiered system to issue study permits. To add up, trusted institutions in this framework will also benefit in many ways, which also include a faster study permit process. However, much is not known about this framework. It is expected to come to work in the fall of 2024.
The key concern for the IRCC has been to protect the integrity of the international student program and will be a key concern till things smooth out for international students in Canada.
