RMIT Village will be offering Build-to-Rent Student Housing

As per the latest Australia student housing news, Urban Planning Collective is all set to work on a new project in North Melbourne. The plan is to build a 6195 sq m site at 5-17 Flemington Road includes a 19-storey student accommodation building. It also included 2 build-to-rent buildings of 19 and 22 storeys. Furthermore, the cost of the entire project is estimated at $264 million. 

This site is currently known as the RMIT Village. The RMIT project has received major support from the Future Melbourne Council. The project is all set to be a mixed-use project, and the plan for this project was submitted by the Victorian Department of Transport and Planning. 

The site already has a five-year-old building on the campus, which was already built to provide student housing. However, this building will be demolished only after the council's discussion to construct the latest student housing.  

This student accommodation in Australia would be offering 644 apartments, on the corner of Bedford Street on Bedford Place. 

According to Nicholas Reece, Deputy Lord Mayor, City of Melbourne, “It's a very significant development, which is why it has gone through so much scrutiny. The City of Melbourne has a vision for more density in this part of the city, particularly with student accommodation. But let the message go forward that the era of disposable buildings is over.”

However, the two build-to-rent towers will comprise of 538 apartments and space for 242 cars, 3 motorbikes, and 344 bicycles. This will be provided on the two basement levels, whereas the ground floor will have space for retail and medical tenancy.
