The shift in the focus of leading Asian venture capitalist firms is due to the exploding number of university admissions.

CEO of QIP venture capital firm, Peter Young, stated, “Investors from Asia are leading the future of the student accommodation market in the UK.” The investment portfolio of the giant venture capital firm from Asia boasts 1,000 operational beds. The 1,700-bed student accommodation assets were acquired owing to the promising future for student accommodation. Peter Young also said, “Looking ahead, we aim to gradually acquire a £700 million asset portfolio by the close of 2024,” 

According to the latest PBSA news,the UK market is gaining attraction due to 45% gap in supply and demand.  The UK student housing market is supposedly going to face a huge shortage of 29,000 beds in 2023. The gap in demand and supply attracts Asian ventures to take solid, low-risk investments in the UK student housing market. 

Oli Buckland heads the PBSA transactions in CBRE and says, “The shortage is across the market, including all sorts of university and privately held beds.”
