About Brandon

Brandon is an unincorporated community located in Hillsborough County. This community is located about 10 miles east of Tampa near Florida's Gulf Coast. Easily accessible from Interstates I-4 and I-75, Brandon is the largest unincorporated community in Florida.

Named after its founder and landlord, John Brandon, the community emerged in the late 1800s and has grown rapidly since then. He was sporadic at first until about 1950 when a full-blown growth phase began. In the early 1960s, it was estimated that Brandon had a population of about 8,000, with new families moving into town on average every day. By the late 1980s, the population had grown to about 100,000 and over 2,500 businesses had sprung up. Although not yet incorporated, Brandon has grown exponentially and today can be considered one large urban area with a flurry of new public schools, business centres and industries. Located just minutes from downtown Tampa, Brandon combines small-town living with easy access to the big city. While there is plenty to do in Brandon itself, there is so much more to do when you factor in the nearby beaches and attractions. Brandon has excellent cultural institutions, programs and events such as the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba and Brandon University Fine Arts.
