About the University of Wales

University of Wales (informally known as the WU Cardiff) is a leading research and educational institute in the heart of Cardiff, Wales. The University of Wales was founded in 1893; however, the origins of its origin date back to 1890 after there was a need for a technical education centre in the city. The university was the first university created in Wales, one of the four countries of the United Kingdom. It was founded with three constituent colleges: Aberystwyth, Bangor, and Cardiff. The University of Wales and the University of Wales Trinity Saint David both accepted a deed of a union in August 2017 that achieved the initial strategic goal of combining two illustrious Universities and establishing a new University for Wales. The university was the second-largest in the UK before the federation's dissolution.

University of Wales a federal institution similar to the University of London, oversaw student examinations while its colleges handled instruction. Before the Institution of Glamorgan was founded in 1992, the University of Wales was the only university in Wales historically.  The University of Wales transitioned from a federal to a confederal organisational structure in 2007, and many of the component institutions became autonomous universities.
