Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a viewing take?

Viewing their space in person usually takes about 15 to 30 minutes. They also offer virtual tours if you can't visit them! However, in both cases, they would like to ask you to make an appointment in advance.

Can I choose who my flatmates will be?

Some of their Spaces offer apartments where you can live with your friends. In this case, each of you will rent one bedroom in the apartment. All you need to do is choose the same apartment number during the booking process. Please note, this is subject to availability – so it’s best to book early to secure your shared flat.

If I don’t get on with my new flatmates can I change rooms?

They want to make sure that you love living with them. Sometimes it takes a little while to adjust and get used to living with your flatmates. But if you don’t get along with your new flatmates, it may be possible to change apartments subject to availability.

What is rental deposit insurance?

This is an alternative to a classic deposit payment by bank transfer. A rental deposit insurance is the promise of a bank or insurance company to cover the arising obligations. For this, instead of paying the entire deposit amount, you must pay a certain fee (usually an annual contribution) to your bank or insurance company to obtain the rental deposit certificate, which you must submit to your landlord. In the event of a payment claim, this amount must then be paid to the beneficiary. The rental deposit insurance must be issued by a German bank or insurance company.

Do I need to be a full-time student to book an apartment?

Usually, they only accept full-time students, but exceptions are occasionally possible. Get in touch to discuss your options further.

Is there an age limit for booking?

To live with them during your studies, you must be 18 or older. With the written consent of your parents/legal guardian, you can also rent a room under the age of 18.

Can I personalize my room?

Yes, as long as you restore your apartment to its original condition by the time you check out. Otherwise, you will have to pay for the material damage or restoration to the original condition.

Where can I smoke?

Smoking is not allowed inside their spaces. However, you are free to smoke outside.

Can I put my own fridge in my room?

Their apartments are all equipped with fridges. Additional fridges are only allowed in exceptional cases and after consultation with their team - for example, if they are used to store prescription medication.

Can I bring a pet?

They love animals, but for the welfare of the animals and to be considerate of other residents with, for example, allergies, they do not allow animals in their buildings.

Can I have friends and family to stay?

You are welcome to have visitors in their apartment or use their common rooms together with them. Since their apartments are usually designed for single use, friends and family should stay for a maximum of 2 or 3 nights. If you live in a shared flat, please make sure to inform your flatmates about your visitors in advance.

Are there any social events for residents?

They host social and cultural events all around the year; from spiritual and cultural get-togethers to fitness events, trips, and much more. Their events are usually free of charge for you.

Are the common rooms always open?

Some of their Spaces allow you to pre-book the common rooms they offer, but most are accessible 24 hours a day unless alternative opening hours are announced in advance.

What happens if something in my apartment breaks or doesn’t work?

Their friendly maintenance team is always on hand if something breaks or isn't working in your apartment. Just inform their team on-site and they will take care of it.

Is the internet included?

Yes, they offer high-speed broadband and Wi-Fi as standard in all apartments, and it’s also available in their common rooms.

What appliances are included in my flat when I arrive?

The equipment included in your apartment varies, depending on the type of apartment you live in.

Where do I do my laundry?

They have laundry facilities in their spaces that are always accessible to you while you are staying with them. Please note that there may be additional charges for laundry, which vary depending on the wash cycle and Space.

What equipment is in the gym?

Spaces with a fitness room offer free weights and/or equipment for strength training, cardiovascular equipment, and yoga mats. Some of their spaces also offer fitness suites with specialized equipment, dance/yoga studios, or outdoor gyms!

Can I have parcels delivered to my space?

Their team will be happy to accept your packages and shipments during office hours so that you never miss a delivery. Please always include your apartment number in the delivery address for a quick and easy assignment of the packages.

Do we get a cleaner?

No, you are responsible for cleaning your apartment. The common rooms are being cleaned regularly, but they would like to ask you to leave the rooms clean and tidy, nevertheless.

How secure is the bike storage?

Most of their bike storage is located inside their secure buildings, so only tenants have access. However, in some Spaces, the bike storage is outside on the premises. In all cases, they recommend a strong bike lock for extra security.

Are there parking spaces for tenants?

Some of their Spaces have parking spaces or an underground garage. Subject to availability, you can book this in addition to your apartment. Rental prices vary depending on the type of parking space and properties.

At what time can I check in on the move-in day?

Move-ins are possible during their opening hours, which vary depending on the accommodation. To make sure that you can move in during your preferred time, please contact their on-site team before planning your move and potentially booking flights or train tickets. What documents do I need to check in?

Before you move in, make sure that you uploaded all the required documents to the Student Portal and that you have paid your deposit or submitted your rental deposit insurance certificate. Once all this is done, you are ready to move in. To make sure that everything goes smoothly on the move-in day, please bring your passport/ID Card and a bank statement as proof of the deposit payment (a screenshot from your banking app is fine too) or the original of your rental deposit insurance certificate with you to your move-in appointment.

Where can I park when I’m unpacking?

As your move-in date approaches, they'll reach out to you to let you know where you can park nearby the Space to unload your belongings.

How do I pay rent?

Rent is paid monthly and in advance, as stated in the rental agreement that you signed when you made your booking. To keep things simple, the full rent must be paid monthly in advance in 12 equal installments. The exact monthly rental price can also be found in your contract. If preferred, you can also pay the full rent for your entire rental period in one payment at the beginning of your rental period. You can easily pay your rent directly through their student portal - either by credit card or by setting up a SEPA (direct debit). Please note that the deposit must be transferred to a separate account. You will receive their bank details for the deposit payment as soon as your booking has been confirmed.

Can I pay rent via bank transfer too?

Paying the rent by bank transfer is possible in exceptional cases. If you need to pay via bank transfer, please contact the team for more information.

Are there any additional costs I have to pay?

However, they only offer short-term rentals during the summer on a case-by-case basis, subject to availability.

What do I do if I’ve booked an apartment, but can’t get a visa?
