    Preguntas Frecuentes

    What do their cleaners clean?

Before you move in, our cleaning team fully prepares your private room. During your stay, they regularly clean all common/shared areas (kitchen, living room, bathrooms) and restock shared supplies. Private bedrooms aren't part of the recurring clean, so keeping your own room tidy is on you.

Who are the type of people who usually live in your spaces?

The typical people who live in our spaces are between the ages of 21 and 35; around half are international members and half are American; about 30 percent are students (undergraduate, graduate, post-graduate, or short-term programs); and 70 percent are already in their professional fields, from all different professional backgrounds! The gender breakdown changes all the time, but on average it’s 50-50.

    What happens after I apply?

If everything checks out, you'll typically hear back the same day, usually within one business day of applying, even on weekends, with a follow-up email containing your offer.

How many people are in each house?

It depends on the house, but our houses range from 6 to 65 members. Remember that these members are spread across multiple apartments, in shared and private rooms.

    Do I need renters insurance?

We require all tenants to have a renter's protection plan. Proof of the policy must be sent when securing a spot.

What's the security like at your locations?

Most of the locations are equipped with keypad access and an Latch or August Lock security system, although a few use traditional keyed locks. They have Nest security systems in all of their common areas to keep everyone’s valuables safe. These are not monitored and are only accessed when the members request that we look at them for justifiable purposes (missing items left in common rooms, suspicious activity, etc.). Most of the locations also have lockers for members’ valuables. In addition to the above, coliving provides a unique, unintended security benefit: Because many people are living in the same spaces, there is virtually always someone at home.

Why are there no locks on the doors?

The New York Housing Department policy disallows residential properties from placing locks on bedroom doors for fire safety purposes; however, even if they were allowed to put locks on the doors, we are committed to providing safe and secure coliving spaces through trust and mutual respect. Bedroom doors are unlocked because it is a display of this trust and respect; on top of their security systems mentioned above, their members are selected for their appreciation of a safe environment.

How do you create a sense of community?

From monthly events to everyday interactions, the y fosters a welcoming community where residents can build professional and personal connections while participating as much or as little as they prefer.

    Can I extend my lease?

Yes. Extensions are possible if the team is notified in advance. Without confirmation, the bed may be reserved by another admitted member.

How does the mail work here?

Paper mail goes to a mailbox or a local post office if preferred. Packages should require signatures or be sent to pick-up sites. They are not responsible for lost or stolen packages.

    Is there laundry?

It depends on the house. Some houses have no machines, some houses have coin-operated machines, and some offer free laundry.

    Are couples allowed?

Yes. At most houses, there is a monthly surcharge for couples or any situation where two people share a private room. In some cases, couples may not be allowed in specific apartments to maintain proper occupancy limits.

What happens to mail after leaving?

Members are advised to change their mailing address with USPS 7–10 days before move-out. If mail is still arriving 30 days after move-out, it will be returned to the post office as “return to sender.”

Do I need renter's insurance to live here?

Yes. All residents must have coverage that includes at least US$100,000 in liability protection. This is a lease requirement.

What if I already have renter’s insurance?

That works. Just make sure your policy includes at least US$100,000 in liability coverage and submit proof to the property.

    What if I don’t have renter’s insurance?

No problem. You can enroll in our protection plan instead.
