University of Central Lancashire


Established in 1828, The University of Central Lancashire is one of the UK's leading universities with its roots stretching back to the Institution for the Diffusion of Knowledge; The institute existed until 1932 when it switched its name to become the Harris Art College. The college underwent further expansion and in 1952 became the Harris College. In 1973 the college became Preston Polytechnic then Lancashire Polytechnic in 1984. Finally, in the year 1992, the Institution was granted university status by the Privy Council, and the University of Central Lancashire came into existence. 

The University of Central Lancashire is located in the heart of Preston, England and also has campuses in Cyprus, Cumbria and Burnley as well. The University of Central Lancashire comprises 20 academic Schools and has students and researchers from over 100 countries and partnerships with over 125 international institutions. UCLan is placed in the top 3.7% of universities worldwide according to the CWUR- known as a Centre for World University Rankings 2016. The University is ranked in the top 800 universities globally according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
