University of Greenwich

About

Located in the capital city of London in the United Kingdom, the University of Greenwich is a public university which has its origin traced back to 1890. Founded by Frank Didden, the University was first named as the Woolwich Polytechnic which is the second-oldest polytechnic in the United Kingdom. In 1897, the institution established its first Woolwich Polytechnic School with a vision of concentrating on higher technical education.

Subsequently in the year 1970, Woolwich Polytechnic amalgamated with a part of Hammersmith College of Art and Building, forming the Thames Polytechnic. In the following years Avery Hill College, parts of Goldsmiths College, Dartford College, the City of London College and Garnett College also merged with the Thames Polytechnic. In 1992, the Thames Polytechnic was awarded it's university status by the Major government. And in the year 1993, the institute was renamed as the University of Greenwich.

Currently catering a total of 20,000 students, the University offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in subjects including humanities, architecture, maritime studies, computing, mathematics, natural sciences, pharmacy, education, business, social sciences and engineering.
