Located in the London Borough of Newham, London, England, the University of East London (UEL) is a public university which has its roots traced back to 1892. Founded as the West Ham Technical Institute, it, later on, became West Ham College of Technology in the year 1952. The college had a women's department and provided courses in engineering, science and art, along with its internal degree courses in Engineering and science, which were approved by the University of London.

However, in the year 1970, West Ham College of Technology along with Walthamstow and Dagenham were merged to form North East London Polytechnic, which later became a higher education institution and was renamed the Polytechnic of East London in the year 1989. Consequently, in the year 1992, the institute received its university status and was renamed for the last time as the University of East London. 

Currently catering a total of 17,000 students, the University offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in subjects including Architecture, Psychology, Fashion Design, Media and Sports Science. Also, the University holds an affiliation with Association of Commonwealth Universities, MillionPlus, and Universities UK.

The University of East London (UEL) has a total of three campuses located at Docklands, Stratford and University Square Stratford.

Established in 1999, The Docklands Campus is the largest campus of the UEL located in the University Way, Royal Docks, London. The campus is mostly used as the water sports centre and offers rowing courses for the London Regatta Centre and was recently short-listed as the Building of the Year by The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). Also, the London City Airport is right across the dock, and the Docklands Light Railway's Cyprus station is just within an 8-minute walk from the campus. 

Located in Water Ln, London close to the 2012 Olympic Park, the UEL's Stratford Campus is home to the School of Psychology, Cass School of Education and Communities and the School of Health, Sports and Bioscience. In addition to this, the campus also houses the Centre for Clinical Education which operates in cooperation with the National Health Service. Opened in January 2008, the centre is the solitary provider of podiatric education in London. 

Inaugurated in the month of September 2013, the University Square Stratford is the third campus of the University of East London. Located in 1 Salway Pl, London, the campus is Co-owned with Birkbeck, University of London and offers both part-time and full-time study for adults. The campus is also home to the UEL's Institute of Performing Arts and the School of Law and Social Sciences. It was also nominated for the Carbuncle Cup in the year 2014.
