When should I let the village know my intention of departure?

You should let them know as soon as you know, that way they can better organise cleaners for your room for the next person to move in.

When will my security deposit be refunded once I check out?

It generally takes up to 28 business days for your security deposit to be refunded by our accounts team. To make the process more streamline, please ensure any outstanding debt is paid and cleared before your refund is finalised.

Who has access to my room?

You will be the only resident that has access to your bedroom, everyone in your apartment will have the main apartment key as well as yourself. Village management do have a copy of the key, if you get locked out, they may also use it to gain access to the room, however you will be notified in advance of that. In case of a lock out after hours, the resident assistant will also hold the master key to let you back into your room.

I'm living with other people in my apartment, whose responsibility is it to take out the rubbish?

It is everyone's job to main the cleanliness of the apartment. We suggest making a cleaning schedule with your housemates to ensure everyone is pulling their weight.

Can I stay in my room during the University holidays?

You are able to stay in your room through the duration of your contract. If you are looking to stay during the summer break you are able to sign a contract extension, subject to Village availability - please see reception for more information.

Do I have to pay a new deposit?

No, you will not be required to pay a new deposit as your current deposit will carry through to your new residential agreement. However, depending on your contract length and room type, you may be required to make a top up payment towards this to ensure it matches your weekly residential fees.

Can I smoke in the village?

Western Sydney University and the Village is a smoke-free-zone and smoking on campus is prohibited.

Once my contract is over, can I leave my luggage in the room while I go travelling before heading back home?

Unfortunately due to lack of storage space we cannot hold you belongings once you've left the village. If you are still paying for your room when you go on holidays and haven't officially checked out, you can leave your stuff but this would be the only circumstance.

What is the latest time at night I can return to my room?

At the village we do not have a curfew, however we do ask you to be mindful of your neighbours/housemates by not making too much noise whilst returning late at night.

How do I log a maintenance issue?

You need to log onto the portal and select log a maintenance request, everything must be logged through the portal.

How can I rebook my stay?

If you'd like to continue living in the village for the next term, you can log into your account and rebook your preferred contract term and room type.

How often will my apartment be inspected?

Full apartment inspections will occur regularly throughout the year. We will advise you prior to inspections occurring so that you have adequate notice.

What happens if I miss a rent payment?

If rent is rejected, declined, or late (unless otherwise arranged with the Village), a $20 late fee will be charged. To pay overdue rent, log into the Student Portal, go to 'Account Summary', and pay using a credit or debit card. If payment was missed due to incorrect rent details, sign into the Student Portal, click 'Payment Setup' on the left-hand menu, and follow the steps to complete the process.

Is there a curfew at the village?

The Village is your home and you are welcome to come and go as you please. Please note that we do have rules regarding Noise and Visitors within the Village. Noise Curfew Residents must comply with all directions from Village management in relation to noise minimisation, particularly in response to noise complaints from other residents of the Village and/or neighbours of the Village. For more information please refer to the Village Noise Policy. Sunday - Thursday: 10pm* Friday - Saturday: 12pm* *during the exam periods, please note that these times do change and there should be no excessive noise within the Village during this time. Visitors A visitor is defined as a person who is meeting with a resident for a short period of time, while a guest is defined as a person who is staying overnight with a resident in accordance with the Rules. All visitors are required to leave the Village by 12 midnight (unless otherwise notified to residents by Village management from time to time). Any visitor present in the Village after the specified time will be considered an “unauthorised person” to which Rule 52 (Overnight Guests & Unauthorised Occupancy) and Rule 69 (Trespassing) applies. Is there a lock for the individual rooms in the shared apartments?

All of our rooms within the apartments have lockable doors.

How would I get my mail at the village?

The Western Sydney University mail house is in Penrith and is distributed between the campuses two times a week. The postal address of the village is: Your Name Western Sydney University Village Name Locked Bag 1797 Penrith NSW 2751

What type of heater am I allowed to bring?

You are allowed to bring oil heaters. Fan heaters are NOT allowed in the village. If you have any further questions or you are unsure and would like clarification, please email zendesk email or call us on advertised number.

Bankstown: The C & M Aquatic centre is only a short 10 minute drive from the village campus. Campbelltown: The Gordon Fetterplace Aquatic Centre is 13 minute drive from the village campus. Narimba: Nirimba Pool is a short 2 minute walk from the village. Parramatta: Parramatta Swimming Centre is a quick 10 minute bus trip from the village campus.

I am a new international student arrival, how can I travel from the airport to the Village?

For information regarding airport pick-up, the university has options for 'airport pickup' which you can find more information on the website.

Do I have to find my own roommates?

You don't need to find your own roommates. If you're interested in a shared apartment, we will do our best to pair you with people who have similar preferences. If you already have specific individuals you'd like to live with, please list their names in the roommate preferences section of your application. Whilst we will try to accommodate these requests, please be aware that we cannot guarantee them due to the high volume of requests we receive.

How is the village different from other options of residential living on campus?

The village fosters independent living while also accommodating students just moving out of home for the first time. There is a strong communal attitude among the residents; however, it also helps students adjust to a more self-sufficient lifestyle where they look after themselves through their cooking, laundry and housekeeping duties. There are many options for residents to become involved in the village atmosphere, while also providing an environment where the resident can also choose not to participate and this is okay. In the case of any queries, the village team is always there for support in case the student is looking for assistance.

How far is the village from the university?

Parramatta Village is located on-campus and is only a short walk away from classes and university facilities.

Is there any heating/cooling in my room?

Bankstown: Our villas have 'stand alone' radiators in the bedroom; however, they are not fitted with a fan for cooling. Students are able to bring a portable fan with them if they would like. All other rooms are equipped with wall heaters for the colder months, and a ceiling fan for cooling. Hawkesbury: All of our apartment types are equipped with heating and cooling facilities in the bedroom for all seasons. Narimba: All of our apartment types have a column heater in the bedroom. Wall fans are coming soon. Penrith: All of our room types are equipped with heating. All of our apartments have ceiling fans; however, the townhouses do not have the feature of a ceiling fan in the bedroom.

Is the village secure?

The village is A+ security with a staff member or resident assistant on duty at all times in case of an emergency.

Can I purchase a linen or kitchen pack from the village?

There is an option to purchase a linen, bathroom or kitchen pack upon your arrival at the village.

Am I able to leave my belongings in my room before my contract starts?

You will not be able to access your room or leave any belongings in the village before your contract starts.

Can I choose my own room?

You are able to submit preferences for specific rooms during the application process. We will do our best to accommodate all requests during the allocation process; however, due to the high capacity of requests we cannot guarantee anything or make any promises.

What supermarkets are close by for me to purchase food?

Bankstown: The Woolworths at Revesby is a short 10 minute trip via the free shuttle bus run by the university. Campbelltown: The Woolworths at Macarthur Square is a 15 minute walk form the village campus. Hawkesbury: The Woolworths are Richmond Marketplace is a 6 minute walk from the village. Narimba: There is a Woolworths supermarket only a short 7 minute drive from the village campus. Parramatta: The is a Coles supermarket located a short 15 minute walk form the village. There is also a Westfield 10 minutes by bus from the campus.

Do I need to bring kitchen utilities, such as a kettle or toaster, with me?

The kitchens are already kitted out with basic amenities, such as the fridge and the microwave. However, you will need to supply your own utilities such as a toaster, kettle, and sandwich press for example. If you live in shared accommodation, you can always wait until you meet your roommates to organise a group shop to figure out what everyone has brought along with them.

How are roommates allocated? Can I put in preferences?

Roommate allocations are conducted in accordance with any requests, such as: study preference, age, and gender. To make a request, you will be prompted to include these during the application process; however, if you would like to add a retrospective request,

Is there a phone in the room?

Unfortunately there are no operating phones in the rooms at any village.

How much is it to do laundry?

Bankstown There a two laundry facilities at the village for residents to use. The price of a load of washing is $2 and the price of drying is $3. Please note that our laundry is coin operated and you will be required to pay using $1 or $2 coins. Campbelltown There a three laundry facilities at the village for residents to use. The price of a load of washing is $2/token and the price of drying is $2/token. Please note that our laundry is token operated and you will be able to purchase tokens at reception. Is there a cleaning service?

There is no cleaning service at the village. You are required to upkeep you personal areas yourself, and organise among the residents of the apartment how to keep the common areas clean. There are inspections throughout the year, and if areas are deemed below standard, penalties will apply where relevant.

Can I smoke at the village?

Western Sydney University is a smoke free campus, that is the same for the village.

What do I do when I get there?

Just head straight over to reception, our friendly village staff will be more than happy to check you in and show you to your room. If arriving after hours, just call the Resident Assistant once you are at reception and they will come down and meet you to check you in.

What is included in my room?

All rooms are fully furnished. This includes a bed, study desk, and study chair. The lounge areas include couches, coffee tables, dining tables and a TV.

Can I live at the Village if I am not a Western Sydney University student?

At Western Sydney University Village we are able to accommodate students from all educational institutions (including TAFE and private Colleges). Please note you must be able to provide proof of enrollment.

Can a couple live here?

All our rooms are single occupancy, so if you'd like your partner to live in the same apartment, each of you will need to have your own room. Please inform us during the application process if you wish to live together. Both of you must be enrolled in a tertiary institution.

Is There Internet Access?

Western Sydney University offers complimentary highspeed Wi-Fi access with your Western Sydney University student login, which you can access while living at the Village.

What is the application fee?

The Application Fee is a one-time processing payment that is made when you pay the security deposit. Please note that the application fee is non-refundable.

What do I have to bring?

We recommend bringing the bare minimum when you first arrive, that way you and your new roommates can work out who buys what to avoid doubling up on certain items. Below is a list of the essentials you will need: A photocopy of your ID, such as your passport or driver's license to assist in your check in Bedding / linen including a pillow Towels and tea towels Food and household supplies Cooking equipment, crockery, cutlery, glasses, cooking utensils etc Laundry supplies Toasters, irons, ironing boards etc., although some residents wait until meeting their roommates on arrival to share the costs of small appliances

How big is my bed?

What's the easiest way to get to the train station?

Western Sydney University has a free shuttle bus.

Does my room have a window?

Yes, all bedrooms have a window, it is an Australian standard that every property needs to adhere by.

What hours is reception open?

Reception is open 9am - 5pm Monday to Friday, resident assistants are available after hours.

If the office is closed on the weekend, how can I check in?

There will be a Resident Assistant available after hours to check you in, please refer to your confirmation email for their mobile number. Their number is also on the office door for your convenience.

What is included in my rent?

Your rental payments are inclusive of utilities such as water and electricity.

What is the Residential Activity Fee?

The Residential Activity Fee is an annual fee that covers the Residential Life Program, including events, food nights, and study nights.

Can I bring my own internet?

You are more than welcome to bring your own internet provided it is a Wi-Fi dongle, we do not permit ADSL to be installed.

How can I prove I am a student?

During the booking process, you will need to submit a copy of your confirmation of enrollment. Upon arrival at the Village, you will be asked to present your student ID card. If you are a first-year university student and have not yet received your student ID, please provide your letter of offer as proof of enrollment at check-in. Once you receive your student ID card, provide a copy of it to us as soon as possible.

Can I get financial assistance?

Unfortunately the village does not offer any financial assistance.

Are meals included?

The Village does not provide catering. However each apartment has access to a fully equipped kitchen including a fridge, freezer, stovetop and microwave so feel free to cook up a storm at any time of the day.

Where do I park?

Parking is managed by the University.

Is there after hours support?

We offer 24 hour support to our residents with village management, Resident Assistants and campus security. There is always someone to speak with regardless of the time of the day.

Can I live here if I am under 18?

Yes, if you are turning 18 within the same month which you are moving into the Village. Please note you will be required to have a parent or guardian to sign our accommodation Guarantor Form before your room will be confirmed.

Can I have overnight guests?

Although we do not encourage overnight guests, we do understand that you may have someone stay from time to time. Please make sure that you sign your guest into reception upon arrival and sign them out on departure. As per the village rules, you can have a guest stay no more than 2 consecutive nights in a 7 day period.

How long will it take me to walk to the library?

It is approximately a 15-minute walk from the Parramatta Village to the library on Parramatta South campus.

Will my apartment have a TV?

Yes, all of our apartments have a TV in the lounge room. Our studio's and studio superior apartments also have a small TV in the bedroom.

What is the security deposit?

If you receive an offer of accommodation from the Village, a security deposit equivalent to 4 weeks rent is payable by you to confirm your accommodation.
