Cancellation Policies
  • Cooling Off Period
New students: Cancellation is permitted without financial liability provided it is requested at least 21 days before the start of the licence period. The cancellation deadline for 44-week contracts commencing in September 2026 is 22 August 2026. Bookings made after this deadline do not benefit from a cooling-off period. Returning students: A 7-day cooling-off period applies from the date of accepting the Terms and Conditions. After this 7-day window, returning students become financially li
  • Early termination by students
After the cooling-off period, the licence agreement is legally binding. Students remain liable for the full licence fee for the entire period of residence unless one of the following grounds applies: Withdrawal from course — the student formally withdraws from their NTU course. Exclusion or refusal of admission — the student is excluded or refused admission by the University. Illness-related suspension — the student has been absent from their course for more than 60 days due to illness an
  • Replacement Tenant Accepted
While cancellation is not permitted after the cooling-off period, if a student wishes to exit their licence, they may arrange a suitable replacement tenant, subject to the following conditions: The replacement must be an existing NTU student not currently residing in accommodation. The replacement must be approved by NTU Student Accommodation Services. The replacement must complete their booking in full, including signing the licence agreement and collecting their keys. The outgoing stu
  • Deferring Studies
Students who have formally agreed a suspension of studies with the university for more than 60 days due to illness may apply for early termination of the licence. A minimum of 4 weeks' written notice must be given, and supporting evidence from the University is required. The student remains liable for the licence fee during the notice period.
  • Other cancellation policies
Contract release requests after the cancellation deadline are assessed on a case-by-case basis. Students must meet all four of the following criteria to be considered: A significant change in circumstance occurred after the cancellation deadline. The change is very serious (e.g. a life-threatening medical condition or unexpected bereavement of an immediate family member). The University was given a reasonable opportunity to resolve the situation where applicable. The student has no opti

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can I request an accessible room due to a medical condition or disability?

When applying online, a series of questions about additional requirements will be asked. The Accommodation team will then be in touch to discuss options and make a suitable offer. Students are encouraged to be transparent about any requirements so the most suitable accommodation can be matched, subject to availability.

Do they offer extra support for students who are care experienced or estranged from their parents?

Yes, a range of extra support is available for care experienced or estranged students.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

No deposit is required to book a room in University-arranged accommodation. Please note that a deposit may be required for private halls of residence.

Can I still apply for accommodation if I deferred my place?

Yes, students who deferred their entry are still eligible for accommodation. If not enrolled in the previous year, the system should recognise the applicant as a new first-year student and allow booking as normal. If deferral was made later and the system does not recognise the student as a first-year, issues may occur — in that case, the Accommodation team needs be contacted.

What if I want to change or cancel my room?

Only one booking can be held at any time, and the system only displays the active room booking. To see other available rooms, the current booking must be cancelled first — this releases the booking permanently and it cannot be reinstated, so careful consideration is advised before cancelling.

Can I live with my friends?

Yes, rooms can be booked in the same flat as friends, subject to availability. The best chance of this is to book at the same time, choosing rooms in the same flat or residence together.

Can I stay in university accommodation for Year Two and Year Three?

Yes, students can stay in halls of residence throughout all years of study.

Will I need a TV licence?

A TV licence may be required if planning to watch TV. Further guidance is available on the TV Licensing website.
