Located in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England, the University of Sheffield also known as Sheffield University, is the successor of University College of Sheffield. Established in the year 1897, University College of Sheffield is one of the original red brick universities which is also part of the Russell Group of research-intensive universities, the N8 Group and the Worldwide Universities Network.


The University of Sheffield was born due to the merger of Sheffield Technical School, Sheffield Medical School and Fifth College and received its royal charter in the year 1905. The University of Sheffield is a multi-campus university divided into five academic faculties, including multiple departments. The University has two campuses: one at St George’s and the other at the Western Bank. 


With a current student count of over 28,000 students, the University of Sheffield offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs, out of which the popular courses include medicine, business and administrative studies and biology. 

Location

The University of Sheffield is a multi-campus university with most of its buildings located in fairly close proximity to each other. The mile-long array of building in the Western Bank campus includes the Octagon Centre, Sheffield Student Union, Firth Court and Alfred Denny Building, the Geography and Planning building, the Hicks Building, the Departments of Animal and Plant Sciences and Biology, the Dainton and Richard Roberts Buildings. 

Located in the heart of Mappin Street, the St George's Campus is home to the Faculty of Engineering, Department of computer science, Department of Journalism Studies and Department of Economics. Apart from this, the university also maintains the Turner Museum of Glass at the St George's Campus area.
