Located in East Anglia, the United Kingdom, the Anglia Ruskin University, also known as ARU is a public university which has its origins traced back to 1858's Cambridge School of Art. Founded by William John Beamont, the Cambridge School of Art, later on, became the Cambridgeshire College of Arts and Technology (CCAT) in the year 1960. However, in the year 1989, Cambridgeshire College of Arts and Technology fused with the Essex Institute of Higher Education to form the Anglia Higher Education College. Later in the year 1991, the Anglia Higher Education College became Anglia Polytechnic and subsequently received its university status in the year 1992. Being one of the post-1992 universities, it was renamed as the Anglia Ruskin University after John Ruskin which was approved by the Privy Council on 29 September 2005. 


Currently catering a total of 39,400 students, the university offers both undergraduate as well as postgraduate courses in subjects including Law & Social Sciences, Engineering, Business, Life Sciences, Art, Technology, and Psychology. Some of the notable alumni of the ARU include Tony Palladino (English cricketer), Barbara Yung (Hong Kong actress), Mark Wood (businessman, accountant and chairman of NSPCC) and Shoo Rayner (author and illustrator).

The Chancery Lane (Central Line) and Farringdon tube (Circle, Metropolitan, Hammersmith & City) are just within a five minutes walk' and two minutes' walk away from the campus. The ARU's flagship Cambridge campus is located in East Road, Cambridge and is home to high-tech clinical skills labs, Health Building and Music Therapy Centre. The campus also provides technology, sports and computing courses in at Compass House, at 80 Newmarket Road. The east road campus is just a 10-minute walk from the city centre as well as from the Market Square. Also, the Drummer Street bus station is merely a 15-minute walk away from the Cambridge campus. 


Placed at a distance of 80 miles from London and 40 miles from Cambridge, the Peterborough campus located at Guild House, Swain Ct, is a purpose-built healthcare campus which offers health-related courses including midwifery and adult nursing. Also, the campus is well-connected to the rest of the city via public transport. The closest bus station is right next to the Queensgate shopping centre, which is only a short walk from the city centre. Located at Bishop Hall Ln in Chelmsford, the Anglia Ruskin University Chelmsford campus is home to one of the largest business schools in the East of England as well as Essex's very first School of Medicine which was inaugurated by Prince Edward the Duke of Kent. The campus also houses The MedBIC, Sawyers building, William Harvey Building, Marconi building, Queen's Building and Lord Ashcroft building. The Chelmsford campus is just about a ten-minute walk from the Chelmsford city centre and just 15-minutes drive from the M25 roadway.
