Established in 1899 by Sir Patrick Manson The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine is a public research university and is also known as LSHTM. The university is a constituent college of the University of London specialising in public health and tropical medicine. After successful completion of studies- Students gain a University of London degree. 


Since the foundation of the School, It has become one of the highest-rated postgraduate and research institutions in Global rankings in the fields of public health and tropical medicine. The School caters more than 4,000 students and 3,000 staff researching over 100 countries. London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine was ranked 1st in Europe for research impact in Sciences in Leiden 2019. Also the number 1 University of the year in THE awards 2016/17. The School was also ranked 4th in the world for public health in Shanghai Ranking 2019 and 27th for medicine in QS World University Rankings 2019.


LSHTM also offers offline, online master's programmes, research degrees, short programmes through its three faculties, two research units and one doctoral college. The faculties are as follows-

The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine is located in Keppel Street, Bloomsbury, Camden. The area has excellent transport links, therefore the students need not worry about commuting to college. The nearest underground stations are Goodge Street, Tottenham Court Road, Russell Square, Euston Square and Warren Street and the buses 10, 24, 29, 73, 134 and 390 stop in Gower Street, southbound, and Tottenham Court Road, northbound. While, buses 1, 8, 14, 19, 25, 38, 55, 98, 176 and 242 stop in New Oxford Street and buses 7, 59, 68, 91, 168 and 188 in Russell Square. It takes only 15 minutes to reach Euson, St Pancras and King's Cross from London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Since, it is hard to find a parking spot at any of the School's sites, thus, designated bicycle parking stands are also available on the pavement in Keppel Street, Malet Street and on Bedford Square.
