Canterbury is the birthplace of Christopher Marlowe, murder site of Thomas Becket and home to the Archbishop - along with well over 30,000 students across the city’s four universities namely the University of Kent, Canterbury Christchurch University, the University College for the Creative Arts and The Girne American University. Living in Canterbury is like living during a medieval settlement – it's the house and setting for the tales of Geoffrey Chaucer all over again! Its picturesque cobbled streets crammed with freelance occasional homes and tea rooms and its lovely gardens that surround the stream Stour are nice places to check or socialise whereas the immense Westgate Towers, Canterbury Cathedral and even what's left of the public bathhouses which can be found in the basement of Waterstone's are a must-see. Whitstable Beach is simply a ten-minute bus ride away (you ought to get a little of fish and chips from the body of water Fish Bar!) and a high-speed train can get you to London in beneath Associate in Nursing hour.

No doubt college and universities might be taken care of, but then the place to live in during the time of your higher education comes into the picture. There are several Student Halls and Student en-suites that one could make use of, but these often are given out for 150-160 pounds per week. Yes, they can be expensive but, it's worth it because they are semi furnished and also offers various facilities that come with the rent that you pay. Student off-campus accommodations also include Student villages and Student Residences where you can find a single bedroom or a sharing bedroom kind of environment. These are handed out for about 120-150 pounds per week. Getting a guarantor to pay your rent might be feasible if there are certain restraints to your financial resources. But other than that, they have flexible payment options that you could choose from.

Canterbury street is crammed with all of your favourite retail stores and eating house chains. Two-star Michelin cook, Michael Caines encompasses an eating house within the luxurious Abode building. However, simply 2 doors down you’ll realize Marlowe’s eating house that serves quality food which is also light on one's pockets. Heritage The City is also home to the recently refurbished Marlowe Theatre which has seen big names in comedy and music over the years and is famous for its top standard pantomimes.

Canterbury is littered with clubs, bars and events for all occasions as a large percentage of its residents being students. The two major clubs, Club Chemistry and Chill Nightclub are open at least four nights a week, as is the University of Kent’s very own campus nightclub The Venue.

The students' choice for favourite pub would without a doubt be The Penny Theatre, which serves good grub at perfect prices, exciting quiz nights and all-around good fun. For a more sociable setting, students like to venture to the Ballroom or Alberry's which often host events for university societies and pride themselves with live music. UKC also offer a range of restaurants and cafes on the field whereas CCCU’s "The Lounge" may be a new hot-spot for its native students.
