Christ Church University


Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU) is a public university located in the historic English cathedral city of Canterbury, in Kent, England. Founded in the year 1962 as a teacher training college under the name of Church of England, the college offered its first-degree programme- the Bachelor of Education in the year 1968. Later, in 1976, the college launched its first BA degree in Religious studies. Gradually, by the late 1980s, the college was substantially enlarged by the addition of health studies. 

Meanwhile in 1995, under the command of the Privy Council, the Church of England college was allowed to grant its degrees for taught courses, following which the college was renamed to Canterbury Christ Church University College. After a while, in the year 2005, the college was granted university status and was renamed for the last time as Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU).

The CCCU currently caters a total of 15,000 students from all over the world and also holds affiliations with Universities at Medway, Million+ and Cathedrals Group. The CCCU offers a range of undergraduate, as well as postgraduate courses in various subjects out of which Social Care, Policing and Teaching, are some of the top preferred subjects.

The CCCU has a total of three campuses- Canterbury Campus, Medway Campus, and Salomons Institute- Tunbridge Wells. 

Located at the North Holmes Road adjacent to St Augustine's Abbey, Canterbury Christ Church University's Canterbury Campus is the largest of all the three campuses. Currently having a base of 15,000 students, the campus offers higher education courses in the emergency services, notably teacher training and health and social care. The Canterbury campus also provides professional and academic programmes for its students which includes doctorates and research degrees in humanities and social, applied sciences and arts. The University is expanding its portfolio of STEM courses including medicine and engineering.  

Inaugurated on October 2004, the Medway campus of CCCU is formed as a part of the Universities at Medway partnership between three universities; Canterbury Christ Church University, the University of Greenwich and the University of Kent. The campus offers courses in social care and health and is also houses the University's Centre for Health and Social Care. The campus consists of two buildings- a Cathedral Court and Rowan Williams Court (RWC). 

Located at Meadow Road, in the heart of Tunbridge Wells, the Salomons Centre for Applied Psychology provides training, research opportunities and postgraduate clinical psychology courses including a PhD in professional practice and a doctorate in clinical psychology. Famed for its excellence in teaching and research in Applied Psychology, the campus also provides training for local NHS Trusts.
