    Frequently Asked Questions

    When can I book?

Find out about key booking dates on our How to Book Accommodation information. Our accommodation guarantee means you'll have options available if you accept later in the year.

Can I view accommodation before I book?

Our open days are the perfect way to view the accommodation and talk to our staff about your options. We'll have a number of halls open across our campuses for you to view, and staff will be on hand to answer any questions and offer advice.

    Can't make an open day?

UPP halls at NTU reception staff always welcome in-person viewings during working hours. There may be some restrictions on which rooms you can see, though, as rooms will most likely be inhabited by current students. You can search and view all our accommodation online. We also provide 360 images of some of our residences on our virtual tour and you can see quick tours on Instagram.

    What is your allocation process?

Our booking system is self-allocated. When you log in with your student ID, it will recognise your age and level of study and show you suitable accommodation options. Please note the University holds back certain rooms across our portfolio to ensure we can offer a fully inclusive mix to all students wishing to book accommodation.

What room options can I choose?

You can filter your search in the booking system across a range of facilities and amenities (i.e., en suites, gyms, parking) and locations (i.e., on and off campus).

Can I request an accessible room due to a medical condition or disability?

When you apply online in our accommodation booking system, you'll be asked a series of questions about any additional requirements. The Accommodation team will then be in touch with you or your nominated contact to discuss your accommodation options and make you a suitable offer. We would encourage you to be transparent about any requirements, so we can match you with the most suitable accommodation, subject to availability.

Do you offer extra support for students that are care experienced or are estranged from their parents?

Yes, we can offer a lot of extra support for care experienced or estranged students. You can read more about the support the University offers via the support for care leavers and estranged students information.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

A deposit is not required to book a room in University arranged accommodation. Please note, you may need to pay a deposit for private halls of residence.

Can I still apply for accommodation if I deferred my place?

If you deferred your entry, you're still eligible for accommodation. If you didn't enrol for the previous year, the system should recognise you as a new first-year student and allow you to book as normal for the upcoming academic year. If you deferred your entry later, the system may not recognise you as a first-year student, and you may experience issues logging in.

What if NTU is my insurance choice?

If you've accepted NTU as your insurance choice, you'll be unable to book accommodation. If NTU becomes your firm choice after you've received your results, you'll be able to apply for accommodation once your place is confirmed.

Can I live with my friends?

Yes, you can book a room in the same flat as your friends, subject to availability. Your best chance for living with friends is to book your rooms when you're together, so you can make sure you're picking rooms in the same flat or residence.

Do you offer family or couples accommodation?

NTU does not currently provide university accommodation for families or couples.

    Can I bring a car?

There is parking available at our outlying halls only. Permits are arranged through each halls' site team. Our five city centre halls (Byron, Gill Street North, Gill Street South, Sandby, and Hampden) have no parking and the tenancy agreement for these halls states that students will not bring a car to the city.

Can I stay in university accommodation for Year Two and Year Three?

Yes, you can stay in our halls of residence throughout all of your studies.

Will I need a TV licence?

If you're going to watch TV, you may need a TV licence.
