About

Established in the year 1823, Liverpool John Moores University also known as LJMU, is a public research university located in the maritime city of Liverpool in northwestern England. Originally named as the Liverpool Mechanics' School of Arts, the institution grew by converging with various colleges including the City of Liverpool C.F. Mott Training College and F.L.Calder School of Domestic Science, before subsequently becoming Liverpool Polytechnic in the year 1970. 


Later on in the year 1992, the Liverpool Polytechnic became Liverpool John Moores University under the Act of Parliament. The University was named in honour of Sir John Moores, a philanthropist and local businessman, who contributed to the University's precursor institutions. Currently catering a total of almost 22,000 students, the LJMU is tagged as the 35th largest University in the UK in regards to the total student population. The University offers a range of both undergraduate and postgraduate programs in various subjects, out of which the particularly popular ones include Engineering, Architecture and Sports Science. 


In addition to this, the Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) is also a member of the Northern Consortium, the European University Association and the University Alliance.

Location

Liverpool John Moores University has a total of three campus- City Campus, IM Marsh Campus and Mount Pleasant Campus.  The LJMU city campus is located at the heart of the city at Kingsway House Crosby Road in Liverpool. The campus houses many buildings and faculties in and around the city centre including James Parsons Building, Max Perutz Building, LJMU Tower and Avril Robarts Library. In addition to this, the campus is merely a 9-minutes drive away from the city centre, and just 8-minutes walk away from the Central Library.


Spread across an area of 7.5 hectares, the IM Marsh Campus is located close to Sefton Park in Barkhill Road, Aigburth, which is just 4 miles south of the Liverpool city centre. The campus houses three faculty's namely- Leisure, Community and Education faculty and also has excellent public transport links. 

Located at 80- 98 Mount Pleasant, Liverpool John Moores University Mount Pleasant Campus is home to the Faculty of Business and Law. The campus also houses John Lennon Art and Design Building which has also received an award from the Royal Institute of British Architects. 

Student life
