About

Founded in 1881, The University of Liverpool is a public university located in the city of Liverpool. It is a founding member of the Russell Group and the N8 Group for research collaboration. Oliver Lodge, who was a professor at the university, made the world's first public radio transmission, and after two years, he took the first surgical X-ray. In 1903, following a royal charter and act of Parliament, the University of Liverpool became an independent university with the right to confer its degrees. The University of Liverpool has also opened a university in Suzhou near Shanghai, in partnership with Xi'an Jiaotong University and a campus in London as well. The University of Liverpool was ranked 29th in UK University Rankings 2020.

The university is a single urban campus situated very near to the Liverpool City Centre, at the top of Brownlow Hill. The University of Liverpool has 69 lecture theatres, 114 teaching areas, and research facilities. The University campus is close to many transport links, and the Liverpool John Lennon Airport is approx. 12 km away from the university and offers flights to various parts of Europe. Low-cost bus service is also available from the airport to the city centre. The nearest train station, Liverpool Lime Street is a mere 13 minutes walking distance away from the university. Bike hire schemes are also available throughout the city, and secure bike storage is provided within the university campus. Cycling is the easiest and the most convenient way to travel to the university.

Student life

Liverpool is a lively city with great-vibe clubs, bars, cafés and many delightful restaurants. The city has five theatres, including the Liverpool Empire and Unity Theatre, and also houses many cinemas. Liverpool represents eight museums and galleries in the city and in 2004 the city became a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  Liverpool is a friendly and economic base for students. There are 200 societies with a wide range of volunteering projects. Whether students need help to settle in or support during their studies, the guild student- Liverpool's name for the Students' Union is there to provide a helpful, friendly service.
