Founded in 1874, The University of Adelaide is a public university located in Adelaide, South Australia. Adelaide University is rated high by some of the known international assessment bodies including- QS World University Rankings, Times Higher Education and Shanghai Jiao Tong's Academic Rankings of World Universities (ARWU) and is ranked under the top 1% of universities in the world. The University has been ranked in the top 200 in five fields– engineering, life sciences, medicine, social sciences and sciences, by the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). Adelaide University provides five faculties, including- the Faculty of Engineering, Computer, and Mathematical Sciences (ECMS), the Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of the Professions, and the Faculty of Sciences. It is a member of the Group of Eight and the Association of Commonwealth Universities. The University is also a member of the Sandstone universities, which mostly consist of colonial-era universities within Australia. The University has a total of 3 campuses in South Australia. 

The University of Adelaide's main campus provides the most teaching and research facilities. The North Terrace campus was established in the year 1874. The campus is home for many research centres and units in a wide range of disciplines. Many students and staff of the University are based at the North Terrace Campus as the campus offers the majority of courses and faculties to the students, including Faculty of Engineering, Computer & Mathematical Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences, Faculty of the Professions and Faculty of Sciences. 

The Roseworthy college is the first agricultural college in Australia which was established in 1883. The campus is the major centre for animal and veterinary science research in South Australia and offers degree courses in subjects like veterinary medicine, veterinary technology, animal science and animal behaviour. The Roseworthy campus has an excellent reputation in natural resource management, animal production and dryland agriculture.

The Waite campus primarily focuses on plant breeding, biotechnology and agricultural science. The campus is situated on 430 acres, a large amount of the land was donated by the pastoralist Peter Waite in 1924.

The Waite campus is located 7 km south-east of the city and is home to more than 800 students.
