The University of Western Australia


Established in 1911, the University of Western Australia also known as UWA is a public research university located in the Australian state of Western Australia. Australia’s sixth-oldest university  UWA was founded by an act of the Parliament of Western Australia. It was the only university in the Western Australia until the establishment of Murdoch University in 1973. 

Classified as one of the sandstone universities, the University of Western Australia is also a member of formal groupings including  the Group of Eight (Go8), Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning (ASAIHL), Matariki Network of Universities (MNU) and Worldwide Universities Network (WUN). 

The UWA offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate level courses in subjects social science, medical & health, law, education & training, Applied science & professions, computer science & IT, Humanities, Journalism and Media. Some of the Alumni of UWA include Bob Hawke- Ex Prime Minister of Australia, H. C. Coombs- Ex Governor of the Reserve Bank, and Robert French- ex Chief Justice of Australia.

The University of Western Australia has a total of three campuses located in the city of Perth, Albany and Claremont.

Situated on the Swan River in Crawley, the  65-hectare UWA’s Crawley campus is home to the university’s  Arts Faculty building and the Cultural Precinct of the University.

Located just a few minutes from the Crawley campus, the UWA’s Claremont campus is home to the Australian Music Examination Board (AMEB), International Skills and Training Institute in Health, Centre for Muslim States and Societies, Confucius Institute and Centre for English Language Teaching. University of Western Australia’s  Albany Campus located at the 35 Stirling Terrace is a four-and-half-hour drive from Perth. The regional campus is home to the Curtin University of Technology , UWA Albany Centre, Friends of UWA Albany,  Centre of Excellence in Natural Resource Management and Rural Clinical School (Albany).
