Frequently Asked Questions
What is your allocation process?
Their booking system is self-allocated. When you log in with your student ID it will recognise your age and level of study and show you suitable accommodation options. Please note the University holds back certain rooms across their portfolio to ensure they can offer a fully inclusive mix to all students wishing to book accommodation.
Can I request an accessible room due to a medical condition / disability?
When you apply online in their accommodation booking system, you will be asked a series of questions about any additional requirements. The Accommodation team will then be in touch with you or your nominated contact to discuss your accommodation options and make you a suitable offer. They would encourage students to be transparent about any requirements, so they can match them with the most suitable accommodation, subject to availability.
Do I need to pay a deposit?
No, you can book a room without a deposit.
Can I still apply for accommodation if I deferred my place?
If you deferred from 2023/24 to 2024/25 entry you are still eligible for accommodation. If you didn't enrol for the 2023/24 year the system should recognise you as a new first year student and allow you to book as normal.
What if PMG is my insurance choice?
If you have accepted PMG as your insurance choice you will be unable to book accommodation. If PMG becomes your firm choice after you have received your results, you will be able to apply for accommodation once your place is confirmed.
What if I want to change or cancel my room?
You can only make one booking at any time and system will only allow you to see your active room booking. If you change your mind or want to see if other rooms are available, you’ll have to cancel your room to be able to see other availability. They recommend that you think carefully before cancelling your booking as this will release your booking and they will be unable to reinstate it.
Their accommodation booking system will allow you to cancel your room, free of charge up to 23 August 2024.
Another option is to request a room swap through the booking system if your booking is held at ‘Tentative’ or ‘Reserved’. The swap process does not match students against an empty room, it requires matching with a student who is looking to change rooms. Changes are free before tenancy agreements start. If your tenancy agreement has started a small administration fee of £30 will be charged.
Can I live with my friends?
Your best chance for living with friends is to book your rooms when you’re together, so you can make sure you’re picking rooms in the same flat/residence.
Do you offer family or couples accommodation?
PMG does not currently provide university accommodation for families or couples.
Can I bring a car?
They have parking at their outlying halls only. Permits are arranged through each halls’ site team and cost £250. Their five city centre halls (Byron, Gill Street North, Gill Street South, Sandby, and Hampden) have no parking and the tenancy agreement for these halls states that students will not bring a car to the city.
Will I need a TV licence?
If you are going to watch TV you may need a TV licence.
Can I stay in university accommodation for Year 2 and 3?
They have a small number of rooms held aside for students in Year 2 and 3. Most students will choose to live either in private halls or in a shared house in city for their second and third years.
Will I be guaranteed student accommodation?
Yes.
