University of West Scotland (Paisley Campus)


The University of the West of Scotland (UWS), formerly known as the University of Paisley, is a public university. Paisley campus is home to approx. Ten thousand students and provides a range of courses and research opportunities in the areas- Chemical Engineering, General Engineering, Education, Hospitality, Recreation and Tourism. It has four campuses in the towns of Paisley, Blantyre, Dumfries, and Ayr, as well as a campus in London, England. UWS is also ranked in the top 600 universities in the 2020 world university rankings by Times higher education. Established in 1897, the university began offering degree studies in the early 1900s and got its university status in 1992. The present institution dates from August 2007, following the merger of the University of Paisley with Bell College, Hamilton and On 30 November 2007, the Privy Council approved the name the University of the West of Scotland for the merged institution.

The University of the West of Scotland (UWS) has four campuses -

1) Paisley Campus - 

UWS Paisley Campus provides an inspiring learning environment and is home to around 10,000 students offering a range of courses including computing; social sciences; engineering and science; and health. The location of the University makes it convenient for the students to commute to the University easily. Students living near the Paisley Campus can come by walking. Cycling to campus will also be very convenient for them as Cycle parking and shower facilities are available on campus. The UWS Paisley Campus also has excellent transport links. There are bus stops within proximity to the main High Street entrance of campus and Paisley Gilmour Street and Canal Street train stations are also both situated within a 10-minute walk of the campus

2) Ayr Campus.

Aye Campus is environmentally friendly and provides sustainable higher education learning facilities. The campus Ayr was opened in August 2011 in partnership with Scotland's Rural College, Scottish Natural Heritage and the Scottish Wildlife Trust.

The UWS Ayr Campus has excellent transport links, with Ayr train station only 10 minutes walk from the campus. It takes approx. Forty minutes to reach Glasgow central from Ayr. Well, Car parking is limited for students during the day; so students are advised to use public transport to the campus or car-share as much as possible.

3) Lanarkshire Campus

Located at Hamilton International Technology Park, Lanarkshire Campus is Scotland's brand new university campus. It is well-served by public transport links, and UWS encourages students to make sustainable travel choices to reach Lanarkshire Campus.

4) Dumfries Campus

Dumfries is UWS's smallest campus located two miles from the centre of Dumfries. The UWS Dumfries Campus has excellent public transport links. Regular bus service also operates between Dumfries campus and the centre of Dumfries, and it takes approx. fifteen minutes to reach the  University campus from the Dumfries city-centre.
