University of Strathclyde


Established in the year 1796, the University of Strathclyde is a public research university located in the city of Glasgow, Scotland. Previously named as the Andersonian Institute, it gained its University status by Royal Charter in the year 1964. Apart from being Glasgow’s second-oldest University, the University of Strathclyde also holds affiliations in ACU, EUA, Universities UK, AMBA, Universities Scotland and EQUIS. 

Currently catering to a total of 20,000 students, the University of Strathclyde is also termed as Scotland’s third-largest University. The University offers a wide range of both undergraduate and postgraduate courses out of which the prominent ones include Engineering, Business, and Physics.

The University of Strathclyde has a total of two campuses:

  • John Anderson Campus: The main campus of the University of Strathclyde “John Anderson” is located in the middle of High Street station and Queen Street Railway Station on the North Clyde Line. Apart from this, the campus is only a couple of minutes away from Glasgow city centre. 
  • Jordanhill Campus: The Jordanhill Campus is spread across an area of 12.5-hectare and is home to the Faculty of Education. A free shuttle bus service is available between the Jordanhill campus and the John Anderson Campus so that students can commute easily from one campus to the other.

The student life at the University of Strathclyde is full of fun, entertainment, music, food and vibrant nightlife as the university is located right in the heart of the Glasgow city.

To make the campus life a fantastic experience for the students, the University hosts a ton of regular events, clubs, volunteering opportunities and societies to join. In addition to this, the university also provides 24/7 IT service and library facility. The Andersonian Library offers a wide range of suitable space for both independent as well as group study work along with fixed computers and extensive wifi zones. 

Well, apart from on-campus life, if you wish to enjoy a fantastic Friday night without burning a hole in your pocket, you should definitely check out the Tingle Bar or the Flying Duck. If you have an affinity for antique art and sculptures, Also, do check out the BBC, Symphony Orchestra, Scottish Opera, and the Scottish Royal Ballet. In addition to this, the city of Glasgow also has an impressive amount of gardens and parks including Botanic Gardens and Glasgow Green which is merely a 10-minute stroll from the campus. Also, there are three major supermarkets- Morrisons, Aldi, and Tesco within walking distance from the campus.
