Edinburgh Napier University


Established in the year 1964, Edinburgh Napier University is a public university located in Edinburgh, a small and hilly capital of Scotland. Formerly named after the Scottish philosopher and mathematician "John Napier", the Napier Technical College gained its university status in the year 1992 by Lord Douglas-Hamilton and was renamed as the Napier University. Later on, in the year 2009, the university was again renamed and given the title of Edinburgh Napier University. 

Currently, catering over 12,000 students from all over the world, the university offers a range of programmes in law, accounting, applied sciences, education, arts, tourism, health, engineering, social service, computer science and business at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. The particularly reputed Edinburgh Napier courses include Applied Science, Journalism, Film Education and Technology. 

In addition to this, Edinburgh Napier University also holds its connections with EUA, Universities Scotland, Million+ and Universities UK. 


Edinburgh Napier University consists of three main campuses: Sighthill, Merchiston and Craiglockhart.

Located at 9 Sighthill Ct, the Edinburgh Napier University's Sighthill campus is just 20-minutes drive away from the city centre. Opened for students in the year January 2011, the Sighthill campus is home to two schools, namely- School of Health & Social Care and School of Applied Sciences. Apart from this, the campus also boasts three IT-enabled lecture theatres, five-storey learning resource centre, a clinical skills suite, 25 specialised teaching rooms and integrated sports facilities. 

The Merchiston campus is located at a bustling neighbourhood of Bruntsfield, which is merely 13-minutes drive from the city centre. Home to three schools- The School of Engineering & the Built Environment, The School of Arts & Creative Industries and The School of Computing, the Merchiston campus is listed as the "Category A" building in Scotland. 

The Edinburgh Napier University's Craiglockhart campus houses The Business School, as well as Craiglockhart Hydropathic Hospital buildings. The campus is also well-served by public transport, so students can freely travel to and from the city centre without any problem. 

Student life

Thanks to the open and welcoming atmosphere which Napier university offers, the student life at Edinburgh Napier University is filled with culture, entertainment, academic and sports. 

The university libraries are full of books, journals, articles along with lots of printers and computers. Plus the staff is very supportive and friendly. Visit the famous Arthur's Seat and enjoy the refreshing view of the whole city or go shopping at Princes Street. Arrange a food and drinks day in the Meadows or watch a rugby match with your friends during your weekends.
