Located in Poole, Dorset, United Kingdom, Arts University Bournemouth also known as AUB is a further and higher education university which has its origins traced back to Bournemouth’s first art school in 1880. Formed as Bournemouth Government School of Art, the school was renamed as the Bournemouth School of Science and Art. However, due to a decrease in numbers and loss of the grant, the school was closed down and the majority of the students were shifted to the Bournemouth West School of Science and Art.


In the year 1913, the Bournemouth School of Science and Art East and Bournemouth West School of Science and Art were consolidated into the Bournemouth and Poole College of Art and Design along with the Commercial and Technical Schools. Later on, in the year 1998, the college was renamed as The Arts Institute at Bournemouth (AIB) and in the year 2001, the Arts Institute at Bournemouth became a higher education institution. Subsequently, in the year 2012, following the approval from the Privy Council, the institute was officially titled as Arts University Bournemouth (AUB).


Currently catering a total of 4,000 students, the university offers a range of both undergraduate and postgraduate courses out of which the university is particularly famous for its art, performance, design, and media courses.

Location

Located next to Bournemouth University and Wallisdown, the Arts University Bournemouth campus is spread across 3.7 hectares and is home to over 19 buildings with specialist workshops and workspace. While most of the courses are based here, the BA (Hons) Dance course is partially found at Pavilion Dance South West. 


Also, the Wallisdown Campus is well-connected to the city’s transport system with the train station located at just a 10-minute drive away from the campus. Some of the notable facilities of the campus include The Refectory, Museum of Design and Plastics (MoDiP), The Gallery, The CRAB Drawing Studio, North Building Extension and Library. 

Student life

The students studying at the AUB have open access to the university's modern-age facilities which includes a well-stocked state-of-the-art library, IT services, study spaces which consists of both individuals as well as dedicated group study space. Also, the Arts University Bournemouth student union hosts many exciting events for the students and provides them with the platform to socialize and interact with other students. Also, the students can join any of the university's clubs and societies according to their interests and hobbies.
